It may seem like a distant memory, but once upon a time Iris West (Candice Patton) was a college student working on her dissertation on "The Flash." In the show's pilot episode, her laptop full of work is stolen, leaving a pre-speedster Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) to track down the thief.
Strangely, her college career is never mentioned again and she later launches a blog before getting a job at the Central City Picture News. What happened to her degree, though?
Zap2it asked that very question when visiting the set of "The Flash" with a group of other outlets.
"Her dissertation got stolen and she was really upset about it, so you want to know," Patton says with a laugh. "I don't know."
While that's a sad end to the story of Iris and her college education, Patton adds, "I think about that often too, but I hope at some point in the future in one episode we make a joke of it."
In case they may have forgotten, let this serve as a reminder to the writing staff at "The Flash." Just give fans a quick glimpse at her degree or mention it somewhere in the show. Iris is a journalist at a major newspaper now, so chances are she didn't just drop out after the particle accelerator explosion.
"The Flash" airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
