We're getting a first look at Underground, WGN America's upcoming pre-Civil War series about the Underground Railroad, via six character posters featuring stars Aldis Hodge, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Christopher Meloni, Alano Miller, Jessica de Gouw and Amirah Vann. Underground's story is told through a group of plantation slaves who band together for the fight of their lives—for their families, their future and their individual freedom. Each poster (see above and below) has a message offering individual clues to the way to reach freedom in the epic escape story. The network released the images today during New York Comic Con.
Additional cast includes Marc Blucas, Adina Porter, Mykelti Williamson, Johnny Ray Gill, Chris Chalk, Reed Diamond, Theodus Crane, Renwick Scott and Jussie Smollett.
From Sony Pictures TV and Tribune Studios, Underground is created and written by Misha Green and Joe Pokaski, who executive produce alongside Akiva Goldsman of Weed Road Pictures; Tory Tunnell and Joby Harold of Safehouse Pictures; and John Legend, Mike Jackson and Ty Stiklorius of Get Lifted. Anthony Hemingway (The Wire) directs and serves as executive producer for the first four episodes. Underground is set to premiere in early 2016.
