Sonequa Martin-Green can't keep it together when anyone mentions her son.

"I just melt when you mention the fact that I'm a mother now," The Walking Dead star tells Good Housekeeping in their November issue (its 130th anniversary!).

Martin-Green, who welcomed Kenric Justin Green II with her husband, actor Kenric Green, in January, says parenting has been both "profound" and "enlightening," as well as strengthened her relationship with her husband.

"It's really been divine having someone come from you and being responsible for their livelihood, for nurturing them," says the star, who plays Sasha on the hit AMC show. "My heart just melts as I speak about it and frankly I think words can't really describe it when I try. It's almost going to make me cry."

The 30-year-old says that the "amazing" experience often leaves her at a loss.

"It's inexpressible," she tells Good Housekeeping.

The actress, who was photographed for the spread at West Virginia's historic Greenbrier resort, says being Kenric's provider has helped her understand her own mother's love.

"[Martin-Green's mother] would always tell us how much she loved us and how she would be willing to do anything for us, and every now and then she would say, 'You'll get it one day,' " she shares. "Now I think of her and I tell her about it all the time. I just say, 'I get it now, Mama, I get it.' How much I love this boy I can now also redirect it and understand that she loves me in that same way."
