Stars went off-Broadway on Wednesday to support Oscar winner Lupita Nyong'o at a preview of her show "Eclipsed."
Oprah Winfrey and best pal Gayle King were backstage at the Public Theater.
"Oprah was so proud and amazed [by] the performance," said a spy. "She kept acknowledging how historic it was [that] the cast features all African women."
The show follows women held captive in Liberia.
Stevie Wonder, one of the last to leave a reception later, told Nyong'o he wants to write a song for her.
