LOS ANGELES — Ask The Perfect Guy star
Not only does she not Google herself, too depressing with internet trolls. but she's certain she's not getting hitched.
"I can tell you for sure I'm not engaged," says Lathan, 43, who makes a point of not discussing specifics of her personal life.
"I've learned over the years to keep my private life private. Because nothing good comes from discussing it. Nothing," says Lathan. "I've been down this road and observant of other people's relationships."
But the star of The Perfect Guy thriller (opening Friday) depicting a woman who falls too quickly for a charming psychopath (
"Yet there's this whole idea that if you're a single woman that somehow you cannot keep a man or something. The truth is, I'm really happy. It's not like there are people who wouldn't want to be with me," says Lathan. "But I have worked so hard to create this life and I'm in a pretty good place."
"if I have a partner to walk through life that would be great," she adds. "But if that doesn't happen, I feel great. I have great friends and great family. I have fun."

Ironically, Lathan says that its working on projects with hunky costars such as Ealy, with whom she has a passionate screen affair before things go very bad, and
"It cannot be easy dating someone who goes to work and has a love scene with Michael Ealy one day and Morris Chestnut the next day," laughs Lathan. "Confidence is key."
Also big turn-offs in her world: cheapness ("I'm very generous, and I just want the guy I'm dating to be generous") and guys attracted to the
"I've encountered in my career, (men) not really wanting me to shine," says Lathan. "I've had guys actually seek me out because of the career. And then when we got down to the reality of it — pictures taken at restaurants and sharing this person with the world — actually not liking my career."
Lathan admits she gives strong advice to her close-cadre of friends about the men in their lives.
"My philosophy is that men vote with their feet and their actions. Not their words. That's a big one for me," says Lathan. "It's like he says he feels this about you. Okay, but what is he doing?"
Lathan's biggest piece of advice, which comes through loud and clear in the campy-thriller — take it slow, even in the immediate-gratitude internet era.
"You cannot go around guarded and paranoid. But in this day and age, everyone wants everything right now," says Lathan. "It's important to take your time. Men and woman. Get to know that person. Time reveals things."
