Vivica A. Fox has joined the cast of the much-anticipated Independence Day sequel.

Roland Emmerich, who directed the original sci-fi blockbuster in 1996, confirmed the news on Twitter on Monday, posting a photo of himself with Fox.

The actress also shared the news with her followers, writing, "I am so excited n blessed 2 be part of this journey w u again! U opened the doors 2 my career!"

Fox is expected to reprise her role as Jasmine Dubrow in the sequel, and she'll join fellow returning actors Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman, while The Hunger Games star Liam Hemsworth and Jessie Usher have been added to the cast.

Will Smith, who starred in the original, is not expected to appear in the sequel.

Independence Day 2 is scheduled to hit cinemas in June, 2016.
