{blackbabes} Pink ladies at the American Music Awards

Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj were both pretty in pink at the American Music Awards last night.

The two pop superstars both sported pink hair at the awards show. Perry's hair was a shade darker. She wore flowers in it to complement a floor-length geisha dress, and pinned it up in a 1940s updo to complement the pink dress and pink guitar she strummed while performing.

Meanwhile, Minaj's locks were baby powder pink, and worn in loose curls. The color played nicely with the rapper's moss green ball gown, and with the futuristic robot suit she sported while performing "Super Bass."

Both Perry and Minaj are known for their colorful wigs and dye jobs. Minaj often opts for dip-dyed styles with stripes of bright colors and beehives that rival Marge Simpson's hue. She spoke to Hype Hair magazine last year about her obsession with unnaturally colored hair. "Color makes me happy," she said. "It really excites me. I am a very visual person and when I look in the mirror, and I see green or I see pink, it does something to my attitude. It makes me feel positive."

Perry is also a fan of vivid hair, most famously sporting a royal blue wig with blunt bangs. But the singer, whose hair is generally raven black, is actually a natural blonde, as evidenced by photos of her early in her career when she was Katy Hudson, the gospel singer.
