{blackbabes} Tone Bell Unveiled As Lead Of Dark Comedy ‘Transcending’ With Raleigh Cain, Heidi Gardner & Kirby Howell-Baptiste As Filming Wraps

--
banners Puppybear.tv - Rakuten.ca - Amazon.com - Swagbucks - MyPoints - DailyRewards

Standup comedian and actor Tone Bell (Survival of the Thickest) has been unveiled as the lead actor of dark comedy Transcending, co-starring opposite Raleigh Cain, as the production wraps principal photography in Kansas City, MO.

They are joined in the cast by Kirby Howell-Baptiste (The Good Place, Barry), Nicole Byer (Nailed It!, Grand Crew), Heidi Gardner (Saturday Night Live), and Pete Gardner (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend).

Bell plays a starving artist from the big city reeling from the break-up with his wife (Howell-Baptiste), who announces she is leaving him for a DJ.

His sister (Byer) comes to his rescue with some tough sibling-love and encourages him to take a vacation at her friend's bed-and-breakfast out in the Midwest. He finds himself in rural Kansas City, MO at a remote farmhouse where he meets his eccentric host: a hot young widow and best-selling author (Cain).

There is instant chemistry, but the situation is complicated by the fact that the bereaved woman believes her late husband's soul has transcended into the walls of the home, leading her to be in love with the house.

The pair help one each other find peace through unconventional methods, while interacting with an array of characters including a hippie cowboy (Pete Gardner); a proud local neighbor with the spiciest chili on the block (Heidi Gardner) and a hard-shelled town musician, played by singer and song writer Kevin Morby, whose music will feature in the film.

The shoot marked a homecoming for Kansas City native Cain, who also makes her debut as a feature screenwriter on the film.

Director Mike Luciano, whose credits include HBO's animated series Animals and the Duplass Brothers' Creep Tapes, also makes his live-action feature debut with this project.

Luciano and Cain serve as executive producers alongside Chris K. Daniels and Jess Mastro of The Launch Company, as well as Will Runyon Jr.

Produced by Paige Blankenship and Courtney Tait, the low-budget indie production is leveraging both the Missouri Film Office transferable tax credit and Kansas City Film Office tax rebate for financing.

Transcending follows in the wake of raft of productions drawn to Kansas City, MO by its new tax incentives, including the fourth season of Ted Lasso and Paul Schrader's upcoming picture The Basics of Philosophy.

Transcending is due to begin post-production in L.A. in August ahead of hitting the festival circuit next year.

Bell is repped by CAA and Mosaic Media Company.

{blackbabes} Venus Williams receives a wild-card entry with Reilly Opelka to play mixed doubles at the US Open

--
banners Puppybear.tv - Rakuten.ca - Amazon.com - Swagbucks - MyPoints - DailyRewards

Venus Williams' comeback is headed to the U.S. Open next month, when she will enter the redesigned mixed doubles tournament with Reilly Opelka via a wild-card entry.

The 45-year-old Williams, who returned to the tennis tour last week after more than a year away, and Opelka were among the 14 teams announced Tuesday by the U.S. Tennis Association for its mixed doubles event on Aug. 19-20.

Eight of the pairings received direct entry into the field based on having the highest combined current singles rankings, and six were given wild cards by the USTA.

The players with spots in the bracket include nine who have won at least one Grand Slam singles title and 14 who are ranked in the WTA or ATP top 10 for singles.

The eight duos with direct entry are No. 11 Emma Navarro and No. 1 Jannik Sinner; No. 10 Paula Badosa and No. 5 Jack Draper; No. 3 Iga Swiatek and No. 13 Casper Ruud; No. 12 Elena Rybakina and No. 4 Taylor Fritz; No. 7 Amanda Anisimova and No. 9 Holger Rune; Belinda Bencic and No. 3 Alexander Zverev; No. 4 Jessica Pegula and No. 15 Tommy Paul; No. 5 Mirra Andreeva and No. 14 Daniil Medvedev.

Badosa originally had sought a place in the field with Stefanos Tsitsipas, while Draper initially was going to play alongside Zheng Qinwen.

In addition to Williams-Opelka, the wild-card entrants are Emma Raducanu and No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz; No. 8 Madison Keys and No. 12 Frances Tiafoe; Olga Danilovic and No. 6 Novak Djokovic; Taylor Townsend — who made her debut at No. 1 in women's doubles this week — and No. 7 Ben Shelton; and last year's U.S. Open mixed doubles champions, Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori.

It's a group of star players that stands in stark contrast to the sort of lesser-known players and doubles specialists usually found in the mixed doubles bracket at a Grand Slam tournament. Some players were critical of the planned changes when they were announced in February, and Errani and Vavassori called the new setup a "pseudo-exhibition focused only on entertainment and show" that would shut out true doubles players.

In a bid to attract some of the sport's biggest names, the USTA increased the prize money, switched mixed doubles from the same time as the singles and other doubles events to the week before the start of singles competition and reduced the format to first-to-four-game sets with no-ad scoring.

A total of 16 duos will be competing for the $1 million top prize; the last two wild-card pairs will be announced by the USTA later.

It is still possible that Williams will ask for, and receive, a wild-card entry for singles. Those are expected to be announced by the USTA the week of Aug. 11.

She won one match each in singles and doubles at the D.C. Open in Washington last week after not competing anywhere since the Miami Open in March 2024.

Williams owns seven Grand Slam titles in singles, 14 in women's doubles — all won with her younger sister Serena — and two in mixed doubles.

The 6-foot-11 (2.11-meter) Opelka is a 27-year-old American who used to be ranked in the top 20 and is now No. 74 after missing nearly two full seasons because of injuries.

Among the partnerships the USTA had said were hoping to get into the tournament that were not on Tuesday's list: Katie Boulter and Alex de Minaur, who are engaged to be married; Jasmine Paolini and Lorenzo Musetti; Aryna Sabalenka and Grigor Dimitrov; Naomi Osaka and Nick Kyrgios; Karolina Muchova and Andrey Rublev; Iva Jovic and Jenson Brooksby; Gaby Dabrowski and Felix Auger-Aliassime; Demi Schuurs and Tallon Griekspoor; Katerina Siniakova and Marcelo Arevalo; Desirae Krawczyk and Evan King; and Su-Wei Hsieh and Jan Zielinski.

As Beyoncé ended her latest tour, she returned to her Destiny's Child roots for a reunion with two of her ride-or-dies.

During Saturday's final stop on her Cowboy Carter Tour in Las Vegas, the 35x Grammy winner brought out Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland for a performance of Bey's 2022 hit 'Energy' and the tour's buzzy mute challenge.

The trio entered to their 2000 single 'Independent Women', strutting the stage to 2004's 'Lose My Breath'. They also treated the audience to a medley of their songs that concluded with their 2001 pop culture anthem 'Bootylicious'.

"Give it up for Destiny's Child!" Beyoncé told the audience as Williams and Rowland exited the stage.

Although Bey and Rowland previously reunited to support Williams during her Broadway run in the Death Becomes Her musical in November, this weekend marked their first time performing together since their surprise reunion at Coachella in 2018.

Following the release of her debut country album Cowboy Carter in March, Beyoncé embarked on the accompanying tour the next month Inglewood, having since played 32 shows across the US, London and France.

{blackbabes} Venus Williams Confirms She Is Engaged to Actor Andrea Preti

Venus Williams is engaged to actor-producer Andrea Preti.

The tennis star, 45, confirmed that she is engaged to the 37-year-old former model after her first singles match in over a year on Tuesday, July 22.

In a post-match interview, Rennae Stubbs asked, "You are now an engaged woman. So, how has Andrea helped you in this comeback? You're happy, a smile on your face. I mean, how much has he made a difference in your life?"

"My fiancé is here and he really encouraged me to keep playing," Williams replied.

"There were so many times where I just wanted to coast and kind of chill," she continued. "Do you know how hard it is to play tennis? You guys don't know how much work goes into this, like it's 9 to 5 except you're running the whole time. Lifting weights and just like dying and then you repeat it the next day. So he encouraged me to get through this and it's wonderful to be here. He's never seen me play."

While the couple has kept their romance private, Williams and Preti, whose acting credits include the Italian television series A Professor and the film One More Day, were first linked together on July 27, 2024, when they were seen boating in Nerano, Italy, along the Amalfi Coast.

By February 2025, the two sparked engagement rumors when they were spotted outside of a tennis training session in Rome with Williams wearing a sparkling diamond ring on her left hand.

The rumors only intensified when the pair attended the Dsquared2 Fall/Winter 2025 fashion show during Milan Fashion Week later that month, and Williams was photographed rocking what appeared to be a square-cut diamond in the middle of a pavé-set on her left hand. However, this sparkler looked different from the one she had previously worn.

For Venus — whose last appearance on the tennis court was a March 2024 defeat at the Miami Open — the new relationship comes three years after the seven-time Grand Slam winner said she wasn't "desperate" to settle down.

"I have a lot of friends who don't believe me when I say that I like my life and I don't want to change it for any reason. I'm not desperate and they don't believe me," the tennis star revealed in a 2021 Cosmopolitan cover story.

Williams, who was previously linked to model Elio Pis in 2012, then elaborated on her dating strategy.

"They say things like, 'You're going to miss your window,' " Williams said about her friends. "I'm like, 'Please, relax. You might feel this way, but I don't. I promise you I don't.'"

In the October 2022 issue of Glamour UK, Williams opened about how she was working on her dating life.

"I've had a single life for a long time and I think it's really easy to get stuck in a single life and sometimes – at least for me – harder to get out," she said at the time. "It makes you think about yourself and what you want and how to behave."

When the right person comes along, Williams said she is willing to go with the flow.

"When life changes, you've got to know when to change," Williams explained. "You can't hold on to either a relationship or the singleness."

It's a family affair for Grammy Award-winning singer and actress Brandy Norwood, who will star opposite her daughter Sy'Rai Smith, in her acting debut, in the new Lifetime holiday film Christmas Everyday.

The title, which Norwood also executive produces, will serve as the tentpole to the network's "It's a Wonderful Lifetime" slate. Additional titles will be announced soon.

In Christmas Everyday, Norwood portrays Francine "Fancy" Ballantine, a devoted fashion designer juggling family obligations and career ambitions.

Following the death of her father, Fancy has been more determined than ever to uphold his cherished Christmas traditions as her mother Evelyn (Debbi Morgan) has also begun losing her sight. But things aren't a smooth ride as Fancy simultaneously plans her bridezilla baby sister, Belle's (Smith), wedding. When a water pipe bursts and disrupts the fairytale wedding plans, Fancy finds herself unexpectedly drawn to the rugged, yet charming, contractor Jaylen (Robert C Riley), tasked with renovating the house. Through all the chaos, she learns valuable lessons about faith, family, and the true meaning of Christmas.

The movie will feature Norwood's 2023 holiday song of the same name. Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman (UnReal) also stars as Fancy's co-worker Germaine.

"The holidays are always about family as part of the festivities, so I'm beyond thrilled to be partnering with Lifetime on this magical holiday project and having my own daughter star with me – even though we are playing sisters!" Norwood shared. "It's a Wonderful Lifetime has become such a beloved tradition, and I'm honored to star and executive produce."

Alongside Norwood, executive producers include Stella Bulochnikov, Dr. Holly Carter and Ryan Ramsey as well as Fernando Szew, Hannah Pillemer, Larry Grimaldi and Adam Shepard for Fox Entertainment Studios, which produces the movie. Christmas Everyday will be directed by Roger Bobb and is based on a script written by Meg DeLoatch and Cameron Ross. Fox Entertainment Global will distribute the film internationally.

Norwood is repped by CAA and SALXCO.

{blackbabes} A historic win by 45-year-old Venus Williams resonates and shows there are no limits for excellence

--
banners Puppybear.tv - Rakuten.ca - Amazon.com - Swagbucks - MyPoints - DailyRewards

WASHINGTON (AP) — There are plenty of reasons why this particular victory by Venus Williams in this particular tennis match — just one of hundreds — resonated with so many folks.

That she's 45, for one thing. Only one woman, Martina Navratilova, ever has won a tour-level singles match while older; her last victory came at 47 in 2004.

That Williams hadn't entered a tournament anywhere in 16 months.

That she needed surgery for uterine fibroids.

A tennis icon has become the oldest woman to win on the WTA Tour in 21 years. Correspondent Gethin Coolbaugh reports.

And when asked Tuesday night after beating her 23-year-old opponent, Peyton Stearns, 6-3, 6-4 at the DC Open what message others might take away from that performance and that result, Williams was quick to provide an answer.

"There are no limits for excellence. It's all about what's in your head and how much you're able to put into it. If you put in the work mentally, physically, and emotionally, then you can have the result," she said. "It doesn't matter how many times you fall down. Doesn't matter how many times you get sick or get hurt or whatever it is. If you continue to believe and put in the work, there is an opportunity, there is space, for you."

Williams has been winning at tennis for decades. Her pro debut came when she was 14. Her first Grand Slam title came at Wimbledon in 2000, less than a month after her 20th birthday.

She accumulated four major singles trophies before Stearns was born and eventually wound up with seven, five at Wimbledon and two at the U.S. Open, plus another 14 in women's doubles — all with her sister Serena — and two in mixed doubles.

"I have so much respect for her to come back here and play, win or lose. That takes a lot of guts to step back onto court, especially with what she's done for the sport," said Stearns, who is ranked 35th and won NCAA singles and team titles at the University of Texas. "You have a lot behind you. You have accomplished a lot. And there is a lot of pressure on her and to kind of upkeep that at this age. So massive credit to her for that."

There were challenges along the way for Williams, none more public than the diagnosis in 2011 of Sjögren's syndrome, an energy-sapping auto-immune disease that can cause joint pain.

More recent was the pain from fibroids — noncancerous growths — and shortly before the DC Open, Williams said: "Where I am at this year is so much different (from) where I was at last year. It's night and day, being able to be here and prepare for the tournament as opposed to preparing for surgery."

As thrilled as the spectators — "Who I love, and they love me," Williams said — were to be able to watch, and pull, for her under the lights Tuesday, other players were rather excited about it, too.

"I commend her so much for being out here," said Taylor Townsend.

Naomi Osaka's take: "She's, like, the queen. There's a royal air around her."

"She's one of the best athletes of all time," Frances Tiafoe said. "Her and her sister, they're not only great for the women's game, not only great for women's sports, but they are so iconic."

Yet, there were some on social media who wondered whether it made sense for the tournament to award a wild-card entry to Williams instead of an up-and-coming player.

DC Open chairman Mark Ein said it took him about two seconds to respond "Of course" when Williams' representative reached out in April to ask whether a spot in the field might be a possibility.

A reporter wanted to know Tuesday whether Williams took any satisfaction from proving doubters wrong.

"No, because I'm not here for anyone else except for me. And I also have nothing to prove. Zip. Zero. I'm here for me, because I want to be here," she said. "And proving anyone wrong or thinking about anyone has never gotten me a win and has never gotten me a loss."

{blackbabes} Beyoncé Lands Another Shot At Her First Emmy As Cowboy Carter NFL Halftime Show Takes On ‘SNL’, Twice

Beyoncé Bowl (Netflix)

--
banners Puppybear.tv - Rakuten.ca - Amazon.com - Swagbucks - MyPoints - DailyRewards

Beyoncé has received eight Emmy nominations over the year but the most-award artist in Grammy history is still searching for a TV win.

The Cowboy Carter star will have another crack at an Emmy this year after her Netflix NFL halftime show Beyoncé Bowl was nominated in Outstanding Variety Special (Live), going head-to-head with both SNL50: The Anniversary Special and SNL50: The Homecoming Concert.

It marks an interesting battle between one of the biggest pop stars in the world and a TV special that featured more A-list celebrities and former SNL stars than could fit in Studio 8H.

Other nominees in the category include The Apple Music Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show
Starring Kendrick Lamar and The Oscars.

Last year, The Oscars, which was hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, won the award, beating out The Apple Music Super Bowl LVIII Halftime Show Starring Usher, The 66th Grammy Awards, The Greatest Roast of All Time: Tom Brady and The 76th Annual Tony Awards.

NFL halftime shows do have some recent form when it comes to winning Emmys; in 2022, The Pepsi Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show, which starred Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar and 50 Cent won the award.

Beyoncé has been previously nominated for her Lemonade special in 2016, which lost out to The Late Late Show Carpool Karaoke Prime Time Special in the Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Special category, and her Homecoming documentary in the Outstanding Variety Special (Pre-Recorded) in 2019. She was also nominated for Outstanding Short-Format Live-Action Entertainment Program in 2013 for her Super Bowl halftime show, in 2015 for Outstanding Special Class Program for her On The Run Tour special, while Lemonade also picked up an Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special nomination in 2016 and Homecoming was also nominated in that category in 2019, as well as picking up noms for Outstanding Music Direction and Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special.

One of the small controversies during this year's Emmy season was the fact that Netflix invited TV Academy members to screen the 13-minute special last month in L.A at a suite at SoFi Stadium before one of her Cowboy Carter dates with voters able to stay and watch the show, a move that upset NBC and SNL creator Lorne Michaels.

But NBC should take solace in the fact that SNL50: The Anniversary Special, the live, three-hour celebration that took place on February 13, picked up a total of 12 nominations.

They're forced to take on a dangerous job that pits them against mob bosses, a crooked detective (Ponce), and their own past sins. Below are first look images of Mitchell and Lil Mama in the film.

Weruche Opia (I May Destroy You, Genius MLK/X) has been cast in ABC's one-hour drama pilot RJ Decker, joining the previously announced Scott Speedman. Rob Doherty created the series based on the 1987 novel Double Whammy by Carl Hiaasen.

RJ Decker (Speedman), disgraced newspaper photographer and ex-con, starts over as a private investigator in the colorful-if-crime-filled world of South Florida, tackling cases that range from slightly odd to outright bizarre with the help of his journalist ex, her police detective wife, and a shadowy new benefactor, a woman from his past who could be his greatest ally… or his one-way ticket back to prison.

Opia will play Shay Bennett, the shrewd-if-unpredictable daughter of a very powerful, very corrupt state senator with ties to RJ's past. If the pilot gets picked up to series, Opia is positioned for a series regular role.

Executive producers include Doherty, who wrote the pilot, Paul McGuigan, who will also direct, Carl Hiaasen, Carl Beverly, and Sarah Timberman. 20th Television is the studio.

Opia is best known for portraying aspiring actress and best friend Terry in the critically acclaimed and award-winning series I May Destroy You for HBO from Michaela Coel. She subsequently received a BAFTA TV nomination for Best Supporting Actress as well as a shared Film Independent Spirit Award for Best Ensemble Cast.

Opia just completed filming Netflix's Ladies First opposite Sacha Baron Cohen and Rosamund Pike. She will soon be seen in the Amazon limited series Quarter Life, starring as Riz Ahmed's agent. She recently starred as Coretta Scott King in Gina Prince-Bythewood's Genius MLK/X on Hulu/Disney+, alongside Kelvin Harrison Jr. and Aaron Pierre. Additionally, Opia starred on the BBC 1 limited series The Jetty, playing investigative journalist Riz. She is repped by Anonymous Content, Curtis Brown, and SOWDLLP.

Lifetime is expanding its Girl In franchise with Girl in the Cellar, its latest Ripped from the Headlines thriller.

Starring Kyla Pratt (The Proud Family) and Kelcey Mawema (Cruel Instruction), the movie is set to premiere Saturday, August 23 at 8/7c on Lifetime.

In case you've missed any of the previous movies in the franchise and want to catch up, Girl in the Cellar follows Girl in the Attic, Girl in the Garage, The Girl Locked Upstairs, Girl in the Video, Girl in Room 13, Girl in the Basement, Girl in the Bunker, Girl in the Box and Girl in the Shed, among others.

Inspired by real stories, the film follows a single mother who resorts to extreme measures to control her teenage daughter.

The logline: Rebecca (Pratt) grows increasingly concerned that her daughter Lory (Mawema) is not making the right life choices. The final straw comes when Rebecca learns that Lory has a secret boyfriend, and to prevent any further mistakes, she decides to confine Lory in their basement cellar. What Lory doesn't know is that this is the same cellar where Rebecca was held captive by her abusive father years ago. As Lory battles for survival, the neighbors begin to notice her absence, and Rebecca's behavior draws suspicion, making her a prime suspect in her daughter's disappearance. Haunted by her traumatic past, Rebecca grapples with her actions and the conflicting feelings of guilt and justification over what she has done.

Girl in the Cellar is produced by Navid Soofi for PF Maple Productions Inc in association with Studio TF1 America.  Executive producers are Timothy O. Johnson, Meghan Hooper White and Amelia Burstyn. Robert Adetuyi directs from a script written by Eva Gonzalez Szigriszt.
