Max has dropped the official trailer for Duster, J.J. Abrams and LaToya Morgan's high-octane crime drama series starring Lost alum Josh Holloway and Rachel Hilson.

In addition to Holloway, HIlson and David, cast also includes Sydney Elisabeth, Greg Grunberg, Camille Guaty, Asivak Koostachin, Adriana Aluna Martinez, and Benjamin Charles Watson.

The first two episodes are written by Abrams and Morgan; first two episodes directed by and executive produced by Steph Green; series is executive produced by Abrams and Rachel Rusch Rich for Bad Robot; executive produced by Morgan for TinkerToy Productions.

The eight-episode season, produced in association with Warner Bros. Television, will debut new episodes weekly through July 3.

They join stars and executive producers Elisabeth Moss and Kerry Washington.

Based on Araminta Hall's novel of the same name, Imperfect Women is an unconventional, psychological thriller examining a crime that shatters the decades-long friendship of three women. {blackbabes} Teri Polo, James Udom, Davida Williams & Sa’Raya Paris Johnson To Star In Dramedy ‘Caroline’ From Morningstar Angeline

L-R: Teri Polo, James Udom, Davida Williams, Sa'Raya Paris Johnson and Morningstar Angeline

Teri Polo (Meet the Parents), James Udom (Judas and the Black Messiah), Davida Williams (Game, Set, Love), and Sa'Raya Paris Johnson (IF) are set to star in Caroline, a dramedy marking the feature directorial debut of Outer Range actress Morningstar Angeline.

The film follows 11-year-old Caroline (Johnson), a clever, sharp-eyed girl navigating a life of excitement and peril as a shoplifter with her mom Jocelyn (Williams). When Caroline's estranged father Corey (Udom) — a charming, small-town con artist — gets out of prison and re-enters their lives, things briefly seem to settle. But when the family is threatened over a debt they can't repay, their fragile peace falters. Desperation drives Caroline and her mom into one last, ill-fated heist.

Per Angeline, who directs from a script by novelist Daniel Blum (The Feet Say Run), "Caroline maintains a perspective from a young girl at the precipice of becoming a teenager. In our timeless small town where big city dreams aren't even a thought, Caroline runs free, making this small world seem full and big. Even when the stakes feel high, the audience remains with Caroline, enduring her life through her naivety, curiosities, and ambitions."

Rob Goodrich and Jason Armstrong are producing under their Walk Like A Duck Entertainment banner, along with Ellyn Vander Wyden (Voices Carry). Production kicks off in Syracuse at the end of May.

Best known her role of Pam Byrnes in the Meet the Parents films, Polo is set to return for the franchise's fourth installment, a project we scooped which is in pre-production. Currently, she can be seen starring in the dramatic comedy Relative Control from director Dafna Yachin. She's repped by Gersh and Bob McGowan.

Udom recently wrapped a series regular role in the upcoming Apple TV+ series Chief of War alongside Jason Momoa. Notable film credits include The Tragedy of Macbeth, Judas and the Black Messiah, and Crown Heights. On television, Udom has appeared in Echo 3, The Sandman, and Accused. He is repped by Gersh and Luber Roklin.

Wiliams starred on Disney Channel's Lizzie McGuire before moving on to Hallmark's Game, Set, Love. Recently, she's guest starred on Season 5 of Tyler Perry's All The Queen's Men and appeared in Season 2 of The Irrational on Peacock. She is repped by Artists & Representatives and Authentic.

Credits for Johnson include John Krasinski's IF starring Ryan Reynolds, the Netflix animated series Devil May Cry, NBC's medical drama New Amsterdam, and the made-for-TV movie Death Saved My Life with Meagan Good. She is repped by Kia Todd Talent Agency and Sheila Legette Entertainment.

A queer Navajo, Chippewa, Blackfeet, Shoshone, and Latina actor and filmmaker, Angeline will next be seen starring in indies Radon's Daughters and Sky Valley, as well as HBO's IT: Welcome to Derry. Previously, she's recurred on Marvel's Echo, Westworld for HBO, Outer Range for Amazon, and Yellowstone for Paramount. She is repped by Gersh and Ronin Entertainment.

{blackbabes} Joel McHale & Paula Patton Set For Musical Indie ‘Reimagined’

Joel McHale and Paula Patton

--
banners Puppybear.tv - Rakuten.ca - Amazon.com - Swagbucks - MyPoints - DailyRewards

Joel McHale (Animal Control) and Paula Patton (Sacrifice) are set to star alongside Yonas Kibreab, the lead of Pixar's forthcoming Elio, in Reimagined, a musical feature marking the directorial debut of composer Mateo Messina (Juno), which adapts his original symphony The Pageant.

Written by Messina and Jeff Witzke, the film follows Felix McCoy (Kibreab), a young boy grappling with the loss of his mother, Mary (Patton), the beloved creator of the town's annual holiday pageant. When the production is taken over and rebranded into a shallow spectacle by cocksure director, Hamilton Lydell (McHale), Felix secretly sabotages the event, only to realize that saving the show might be the only way to keep his late mother's spirit alive.

Currently shooting on location in the Hudson Valley, New York, the film also stars Cress Williams (Black Lightning), Josh Holloway (Duster), Kate Micucci (Dog Man), Jade Catta-Preta (Future Man), Aaron David Harris (Matlock), Savannah Dahan (Kids Bop), Jeff Witzke (Saturday Night), and Scott Hoying (of a cappella group the Pentatonix).

Robert Graf (No Country for Old Men), Gabriel Roth (Drugstore June), Chris Bongirne (Marshall), and Pete Muller are the producers.

Reflecting on the process of making Reimagined, Messina told Deadline, "It's been fascinating to create a story completely from a musical perspective. The exciting challenge has been every element of the score will be seen on the screen. This is a musical film, just not in the traditional sense."

Best known for starring in NBC's cult hit comedy Community, which will soon be getting a long-teased film continuation, McHale has made memorable recent appearances on Yellowjackets and The Bear and headlines Fox's sitcom Animal Control, which returned returned earlier this year for its third season. Upcoming, he's also set to star in Scream 7. He's represented by UTA and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole.

Over the years, Patton has been seen in numerous films, including The Do-Over, About Last Night, 2 Guns, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, and Precious, to name just a few. She's represented by Gersh and MPE.

Messina is a Grammy winner who has scored over 50 features, shorts and documentaries, plus nearly 300 episodes of television. Notable credits include Juno, Blockers, The Wrong Missy, and Tall Girl. He's represented by The Gorfaine/Schwartz Agency.

{blackbabes} Zoë Kravitz In Talks To Direct ‘How To Save A Marriage’ From Sony And Producer Robert Pattinson

--
banners Puppybear.tv - Rakuten.ca - Amazon.com - Swagbucks - MyPoints - DailyRewards

Following her directorial debut on Blink Twice, Zoë Kravitz looks to have found her next helming gig. Sources tell Deadline that she is in talks to direct How to Save a Marriage for Sony Pictures. Ross Evans penned the script, and Robert Pattinson is producing with partner Brighton McCloskey via their Icki Eneo Arlo banner along with Geoff Shaevitz and Evan Silverberg via Entertainment 360.

Plot details are being kept under wraps, and studio sources say the project is still in early development. Evans will also exec produce. As of now, Pattinson, who starred with Kravitz in 2022's The Batman, is only producing the pic.

Sony is high on the project and was aggressive in pursuing it when it hit the market last year. The deal marked a huge sale to a major studio for Evans and at the time showed studios' interest in high-profile packages following the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.

While plot details are unknown, sources say Marriage has edgy undertones similar to Blink Twice that made that film work, and helped inform the execs' decision to tap Kravitz as director. While still busy on the acting front, she showcased her helming talent with the thriller, released in August 2024 and starring Naomi Ackie and Channing Tatum. The Amazon MGM Studios film earned strong reviews and put Kravitz on the map as a director.

On the acting front, Kravitz can be seen next opposite Austin Butler in the Darren Aronofsky thriller Caught Stealing, which bows this fall.

She is repped by CAA and Untitled Entertainment.

--
banners Puppybear.tv - Rakuten.ca - Amazon.com - Swagbucks - MyPoints - DailyRewards

Filmmakers Maurice Hall and Tony L. Patterson have set the cast for their third feature together, the indie dramedy #WorstChristmasEver. The list includes B.J. Britt (The Groomsmen Last Dance), Taja V. Simpson (Tyler Perry's The Oval), Shanti Lowry (The Game), Bill Bellamy (Bel-Air), Tamala Jones (Ordinary Angels), Maurice Hall (High Potential), Tyler Lofton (The Pitt), and Mo Ashley (All American: Homecoming).

Written by Patterson and Hall, who also features in the ensemble, the film follows recently divorced workaholic Billy Turner (Britt) as he's persuaded to fly across the country to celebrate Christmas with his children, James (Lofton) and Haley (Ashley), his ex-wife, Alicia (Lowry)….and her new fiancé, Chris (Hall). Billy's longtime friends, Larry (Bellamy) and Cynthia (Jones), try to talk him off a ledge in his dread of this years' holiday. And in a feat to drink away his sorrows, he literally stumbles upon high powered lawyer, Harmony Davis (Simpson). Though brief, their first encounter over chicken wings and a series of jokes turns to an unlikely romance that leads Billy to invite her to Christmas dinner. James, Haley and friends travel from separate coasts, dealing with delays, cancellations and daddy issues as their parents navigate their own past and pettiness.

The intention, Hall said, was to give the audience the opportunity "to create memories that emphasize the importance of family, love, and resilience, especially during the holidays. Think Almost Christmas meets Guess Who."

Hall produced for Mo-tivation Unlimited, alongside Patterson's PattersonHouse Productions, and Simpson & McGowan Studios, with Ricki Maslar handling casting. Carl McDowell (Ballers) and René Ashton (The Man in the Guesthouse) round out the cast.

Britt is repped by Joseph Le Talent Agency and Luber Roklin; Simpson by Stewart Talent and E Cubed Management; Lowry by Buchwald; Hall by Eileen O'Farrell Management; Bellamy by Buchwald; Jones by IAG and Alchemy Entertainment; Lofton by AEFH and Luber Roklin; and Ashley by Kia Todd Agency and Sheila Legette Entertainment.

{blackbabes} TLC Musical ‘CrazySexyCool’ Aims For Broadway

https://deadline.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/GettyImages-1354028574.jpg?w=681&h=383&crop=1

CrazySexyCool, the upcoming jukebox musical about '90s trio TLC that's set to premiere at Arena Stage in Washington D.C. next year, is aiming for a Broadway move, sources tell Deadline. A Broadway production timeline hasn't been set.

The musical tells the story of Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins (ex-Sheila, Days of Our Lives), Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes and Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas, the Grammy-winning trio behind such hits as "Waterfalls," "Creep," "Unpretty" and "No Scrubs." Written and directed by Kwame Kwei-Armah, the former artistic director of London's Young Vic whose credits include One Love: The Bob Marley Musical, CrazySexyCool makes its world premiere at Arena Stage in June 2026 for 8 weeks as part of the company's 75th Anniversary season.

Casting hasn't been announced.

Producing is Bill Diggins' Diggit Theatrical Group, with Stephen Gabriel as Executive Producer. Gabriel's Broadway producing credits include The Roommate, The Who's Tommy, Jagged Little Pill and Ain't Too Proud.

Billed as a "(mostly true) story of unshakable sisterhood," CrazySexyCool will feature choreography by Chloe O. Davis, the associate choreographer of the current Gypsy whose other credits as a performer include Paradise Square and Hell's Kitchen.

Formed in 1990 Atlanta, TLC would eventually score nine Top 10 hits, including four number-one singles – "Creep", "Waterfalls", "No Scrubs" and "Unpretty." The group sold over 95 million records worldwide, though creative differences and internal feuds set in. Lopes died on April 25, 2002, in a car crash while filming a documentary in Honduras.

"TLC completely changed the game," said producer Bill Diggins. "Their music gave a voice to women everywhere, empowering them to be confident and unapologetic. But this isn't just a story about the music; it's about the sisterhood between these women and what kept them together through both unimaginable challenges and chart-topping success."

"Bringing this story to the stage is a dream come true," said Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins. "We have performed in a lot of different venues all over the world throughout our career, but bringing our story and music to the theater is a totally new and exciting challenge."

"We have some of the best people in the business working on this project," said Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas. "Audiences will get to hear our story – mostly fact with a sprinkle of fiction – told in our own way, and of course it's set to all your favorite hits."

{blackbabes} Danielle Deadwyler To Star In & Produce Adaptation Of Ann Petry’s ‘The Street’

Danielle Deadwyler

--
banners Puppybear.tv - Rakuten.ca - Amazon.com - Swagbucks - MyPoints - DailyRewards

Gotham Award winner Danielle Deadwyler (Till) is teaming with Alix Madigan and Michael Sherman to develop and produce The Street, a feature adaptation of the novel by Ann Petry, in which she's set to star.

Also aboard the project is Gina Atwater (Westworld), who will write the script and serve as executive producer.

Reissued in 2022, Petry's 1946 debut novel was famously the first book by a Black woman to sell over one million copies. This is the harrowing story of young Black woman Lutie Johnson (Deadwyler) and her spirited struggle to raise her son amid the violence, poverty, and racial dissonance of Harlem in the late 1940s.

In a statement accompanying the development announcement, Deadwyler said, "Ann Petry's The Street has quaked my understanding of motherhood, Black and American family life experiences on how to just get by (historically), and the festering emotions that seed alongside the wilted optimism and dark hope of the American Dream."

She called The Street "essential to American literature," saying that this was "evident upon its marvelous critically acclaimed debut; and, now, with this steadfast and dynamic collaboration with Alix, Michael, Gina, myself and the Petry estate, we hope to rumble the film landscape with an adaptation of her evergreen tale of the lengths to which one mother, one woman is stretched for self, family and the costs of survival."

Commented Madigan and Sherman, "We are inspired to be a part of bringing Ann Petry's harrowing classic to life with Danielle and Gina and could not imagine better creative collaborators to partner with on this journey."

Currently, Deadwyler can be seen starring in Universal & Blumhouse's horror film The Woman in the Yard, which opened March 28. Recently seen in Netflix's smash hit Christmas action thriller Carry-On, her other best known credits include Station Eleven, Till, The Piano Lesson, and The Harder They Fall. Other upcoming projects for the actressinclude HBO's untitled Steve Carell comedy from Bill Lawrence, Matt Tarses and Warner Bros. TV, as well as Fifth Season's Otis & Zelma opposite John Boyega, of which she is an EP.

Atwater wrote on HBO's Westworld, has developed TV for Apple and HBO, and just wrapped up a multi-year overall deal at Netflix. Currently, she's writing and producing Myrtis, based on the life of bull rider Myrtis Dightman, with Dee Rees attached to direct, in addition to developing projects at Orion Pictures and Ley Line Entertainment.

An Oscar nominee, Madigan has produced titles like Winter's Bone and Hold Your Breath. Credits for Sherman include The Truffle Hunters, The Fight, and Native Son, to name just a few.

Deadwyler is represented by Paradigm, Play Management, and Ziffren Brittenham; Atwater by The Mission Entertainment, CAA, and Gang, Tyre, Ramer.

Gabrielle Union (The Inspection) is the newest addition to the cast of Forbidden Fruits, a genre film marking the feature directorial debut of Meredith Alloway.

Character details are under wraps, but Union joins an ensemble that includes the previously announced Lili Reinhart, Lola Tung, Victoria Pedretti, Alexandra Shipp and Emma Chamberlain. The film is in production and has been picked up for distribution in 2026 by IFC Films and Shudder, as we were first to report last month.

banners Puppybear.tv - Rakuten.ca - Amazon.com - Swagbucks - MyPoints - DailyRewards

Tyler Perry has a new feature in the works at Netflix led by Naomi Baker (All American: Homecoming) and Jay Reeves (The Six Triple Eight) titled Doing Life.

The pair lead an ensemble cast that also includes Tamberla Perry (Brilliant Minds), Karen Obilom (Doom Patrol), Jasmine Sargent (Dynasty) and Danielle Moné Truitt (Law & Order: Organized Crime).

Doing Life is a gritty and gripping urban drama that explores the life of a single mother fighting for survival and a reformed ex-con with untapped talents who forge an unexpected bond.

In addition to Perry, Angi Bones and Tony L. Strickland will serve as producers.

The new film marks Tyler Perry's seventh film from his creative partnership with Netflix, which sees him write, direct, and produce films, series, and faith-based features.

Most recently, they released The Six Triple Eight, led by Kerry Washington. It is inspired by the real-life story of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion, the sole all-Black, all-female Women's Army Corps unit. The members of this unit were tasked with sorting the massive backlog of undelivered mail for U.S. service members in England and France. Doing Life reunites Perry with Reeves, who played Private Hugh Bell in The Six Triple Eight. The streamer reports The Six Triple Eight is Perry's most viewed film through its first four weeks, and the release boosted viewing for his other films by 45%.

Also part of Perry's slate at Netflix is the film Madea's Destination Wedding, his second Madea project with the streamer following A Madea Homecoming released in 2022, the Taraji P. Henson-led Straw and the film R&B, written by Michael Elliot and Cory Tynan.

On the TV front, the new series She The People follows Lieutenant Governor candidate Antoinette Dunkerson (Terri J. Vaughn), who runs a successful campaign and now must figure out how to thrive under a sexist and condescending governor while attempting to keep her family in line now that they're all in the public eye. His freshman series Beauty in Black was recently renewed for a second season.

Baker is represented by Luber Roklin Entertainment and HRi Talent.

Perry is repped by Stewart Talent and Authentic Talent & Literary Management.

Sargent is repped by Stewart Talent and Tassell Talent Group.

Truitt is repped by CMA Entertainment and UTA.

Obilom is repped by Paradigm.

Hulu has handed a pilot order to Group Chat, a satirical comedy starring and executive produced by La La Anthony (BMF), written and executive produced by Black-ish creator Kenya Barris and executive produced by Kim Kardashian.

Group Chat landed at Hulu for development in summer 2024 as the first project under a first-look deal Kardashian signed with 20th Television. The Disney TV Studios division co-produces the comedy with BET Studios, where Barris is a principal partner.

Loosely inspired by Anthony's bestseller The Love Playbook: Rules for Love, Sex, and Happiness, Group Chat revolves around five fly, successful women in their 40s who have conquered L.A. and seemingly have it all. But behind their picture perfect lives is a secret group chat where the real drama unfolds. In their world, the truth is messier, more unfiltered, and juicier than anyone could imagine.

Longtime close friends Kardashian and Anthony executive produce alongside Barris and Adam Kassan via Khalabo Ink Society.

Hulu has been ramping up its live-action comedy slate. Mid-Century Modern, which originated as a pilot, just premiered last week. Another comedy pilot, Phony, starring Connie Britton, remains in contention.

At Hulu, Kardashian also stars in and executive produces the upcoming Ryan Murphy legal drama series All's Fair and executive produces the streamer's top unscripted series, The Kardashians. Additionally, she executive produces with Emma Roberts the drama series Calabasas in the works at Netflix. She's repped by WME.

Barris, the creator/executive producer of the Black-ish franchise that spanned three series, executive produces the praised BET+ series Diarra From Detroit, created by and starring Diarra Kilpatrick, and The Vince Staples Show for Netflix where he also wrote and directed the movie You People. Barris and Khalabo Ink Society are repped by WME, Artists First and attorney Gregg Gellman at Morris Yorn.

Known for her role on Starz's Power, Anthony is a series regular on BMF and recurred on The Chi. She also appeared on Barris' show Grown-ish and in You People. Her first book, the 2014 The Love Playbook, was followed by The Power Playbook. Anthony is repped by WME, Untitled Entertainment and attorney Renee Farrell.
