{blackbabes} Serena says dealing with media scrutiny made her stronger

https://s.yimg.com/uu/api/res/1.2/nbPWwoF80AveSaESnZpNQA--~B/aD0yMTg5O3c9MzI4NDthcHBpZD15dGFjaHlvbg--/https://media.zenfs.com/en/ap.org/6bfc023fdc73063e0446e297ae00bc6e

Serena Williams says she can identify with anxiety regarding news conference scrutiny, and has experienced it frequently after matches.

"Many of them I've been into where I've been -- very difficult to walk in in those moments," she said. "But you know, it made me stronger."

Williams made her comments in a post-match news conference following her first-round victory Monday at the French Open. She spoke hours after four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka withdrew from the tournament, saying in a statement that she has dealt with long bouts of depression since winning a tumultuous final against Williams in the 2018 U.S. Open.

Last week Osaka said she would not participate in the standard post-match news conferences during Roland Garros, citing her decision as a mental health matter because media questions can create self-doubt.

"I feel for Naomi," Williams said. "Not everyone is the same. I'm thick. Other people are thin. Everyone is different and everyone handles things differently.

"You just have to let her handle it the way she wants to and the best way she thinks she can. That's the only thing I can say: I think she is doing the best she can."

Few athletes have been under the media spotlight like Williams, 39, who is chasing a record-tying 24th Grand Slam singles title. When the glare becomes too intense, she said, it's important to reach out for support.

"You really have to step forward and make an effort, just as in anything, and say, 'I need help with A, B, C and D,' and talk to someone. I think that's so important to have a sounding board, whether it's someone at the WTA, or someone in your life, or maybe it's someone you talk to on a weekly basis.

"I've been in that position too, and I've definitely had opportunities to talk to people and just get things off my chest that I can't necessarily talk about to anyone in my family or anyone I know."

There were moments of anxiety for Williams even in a first-round victory that will be quickly forgotten. She took a spill on the clay and saved two set points before eliminating Irina-Camelia Begu 7-6 (6), 6-2 under the lights during the first scheduled night session in tournament history.

Williams struggled with her serve but played aggressively, such as when she raced forward facing a set point to hit a risky swinging volley for a winner.

"I did not want to lose that first set," she said.

Williams improved to 77-1 in first-round Slam matches. The loss came in Paris in 2012.

{blackbabes} Serena offers support to Osaka after French Open withdrawal

PARIS (Reuters) - Serena Williams offered her support to Naomi Osaka on Monday after the Japanese player's decision to withdraw from the French Open in the wake of her boycott of press conferences.

In a statement on Monday, Osaka said she did not want her stance to become a distraction and said that she had been dealing with mental health issues since 2018.

Williams, 39, was inevitably asked for her reaction to Osaka's decision following her first-round win over Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu.

"Honestly I just found out before I walked into the press conference, so that's the extent of it right now for me," Williams told reporters.

Pushed for her opinion on Osaka's claim last week that post-match media conferences were damaging her mental wellbeing, and Monday's unexpected development, Williams said: "The only thing I feel is that I feel for Naomi.

"I feel like I wish I could give her a hug because I know what it's like. Like I said, I've been in those positions.

"We have different personalities, and people are different.

Not everyone is the same. I'm thick (skinned). Other people are thin. Everyone is different and everyone handles things differently.

"You just have to let her handle it the way she wants to, in

the best way she thinks she can, and that's the only thing

I can say. I think she's doing the best that she can."

Williams said it was important for players to have someone to use as a "sounding board" in tough times.

"You have to be able to make an effort and say, I need

help with A, B, C, and D, and talk to someone," she said.

"Whether it's someone at the WTA or whether it's someone in your life. Maybe it's someone that you just talk to on a weekly

basis. I've been in that position, too.

"I've definitely had opportunities to talk to people, kind of get things off my chest that I can't necessarily talk to anyone in my family or anyone that I know."

{blackbabes} Serena survives scare in French Open's first night match

https://media.zenfs.com/en/reuters.com/b405c1894141f81e437e8a65de4fca54

PARIS (Reuters) -American Serena Williams survived a scare in the first ever night session match at the French Open as she edged out Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu 7-6(6) 6-2 in the first round on Monday.

Organisers have introduced night matches under the Philippe Chatrier Court lights this year to provide some late drama for the fans but the match was played in an empty stadium because of a COVID-19 curfew in the French capital.

The flat atmosphere hardly helped the 39-year-old Williams who squandered a 5-2 lead in the first set against a tricky opponent who battled back to move into a tiebreaker.

Begu then led 6-4 and Williams got lucky with a return that clipped the tape, before rattling off four points to win the opener with a drive volley she celebrated with a roar that echoed around the empty stands.

Three-time Roland Garros champion Williams, who has been stuck on 23 Grand Slam titles, one behind Margaret Court's all-time record, was far more assured in the second set and managed to claim the victory without further fuss.

Williams has been agonisingly close to matching Court's record since winning the 2017 Australian Open in her last Grand Slam event before becoming a mother.

She has fallen in four Grand Slam finals and earlier this year lost in the semi-finals at the Australian Open.

Following that she underwent oral surgery and has played only three Tour-level matches since, winning one.

Despite her first set wobble against Begu, however, the seventh seed showed enough of her old firepower and fight to suggest that she can make a deep run in Paris.

"Ironically enough night sessions are not my favourite matches, but I do have a good record at it," Williams said of her first taste of action under the Roland Garros lights.

"Clearly something about it gets me hyped. I have to say it was pretty cool to be able to play the first night session ever here at Roland Garros. That was something I thoroughly enjoyed."

Williams will face another Romanian in round two in the shape of 174th-ranked Mihaela Buzarnescu.

{blackbabes} Rumors swirl Beyoncé and Jay-Z commissioned world’s most expensive car

Beyoncé and Jay-Z may have just added the most expensive car in the world to their already luxurious fleet.

This week, Rolls-Royce unveiled its $28 million Boat Tail convertible for a client who clearly enjoys the finer things in life, such as a rear deck that contains a picnic set and a double refrigerator to keep vintage champagne chilled. Rumor has it, a "Crazy in Love" couple were behind the creation of the car.

"It's thought this fantastic car has been commissioned by Beyoncé and Jay-Z with all its detailing matching their favorite things," an industry source told the UK's Telegraph.

Built for the Mediterranean backroads of the French Riviera, where Beyoncé, 39, and Jay-Z, 51, have frequented, the owners of this British luxury vehicle will be able to sip bubbly during outdoor picnics, as a "double refrigerator houses the clients' favorite vintages of Armand de Brignac," which can be "rapidly cooled to precisely six degrees."

It's worth noting that the rapper sold a 50 percent stake in Armand de Brignac to Moët Hennessy in February.

Boasting a blue exterior — perhaps a nod to the Bey and Jay's eldest daughter, 9-year-old Blue Ivy — the luxury ride also features two-sided timepieces, one for a man and one for a woman, from Bovet 1822 that can be worn or used as car clocks.

While the car has a big price tag, Beyoncé and Jay-Z, who have been married since 2008, can surely afford it. They have reported net worths of $500 million and $1.4 billion, respectively, according to Celebrity Net Worth and Forbes.

Torsten Müller-Ötvös, the CEO of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, has called the Boat Tail the company's "most ambitious project yet."

In addition to this four-seater, 19-foot Boat Tail, only two other coachbuilt vehicles will be made.

Reps for Beyoncé and Jay-Z did not immediately return our request for comment.

Rolls-Royce, meanwhile, had no comment on the speculation that the "'03 Bonnie & Clyde" collaborators commissioned the vehicle, the Daily Mail reported Friday.

In season two, Android partners Mother (Amanda Collin) and Father (Abubakar Salim), along with their brood of six human children, join a newly formed atheistic colony in Kepler 22 b's mysterious tropical zone. But navigating this strange new society is only the start of their troubles as Mother's "natural child" threatens to drive what little remains of the human race to extinction.

Christoffersen will play "Cleaver," a devoted atheist soldier, veteran of the war on Earth, whose only friend is the super computer he has been sworn to protect.

Jones will play "Grandmother," a god-like android, built thousands of years ago by members of the lost civilization that existed on Kepler 22b.

Santo will play "Vrille," a fully humanoid android custom built to look and behave just as the real Vrille Pell did the year she committed suicide. Vrille is rebellious, impulsive, dark – and has an affection for rabbits and other small animals, which she likes to pet and hold when she is overtaxed. Though fairly stable, certain triggers cause Vrille to enter states of confusion, obsession and mania.

Harkness will play "Tamerlane," an atheist army grunt soldier with a defiant personality. His early life was a horror – until he found his calling with the atheist army, fighting the Mithraic on Earth. But now that he's a member of the burgeoning atheist colony on Kepler 22b he is expected to forget the hate he feels towards his enemy and accept a number of Mithraic as neighbors – an expectation which he violently rebels against.

Engelbrecht will play "Decima." Highly educated, Decima was a prominent scientist/weapons developer on Earth who did a lot of immoral things in order to achieve success/domination in her field. She is notoriously ruthless – but still carries guilt – though she erased much of her guilty feelings with futuristic therapies she personally helped develop. Saayeng will play "Nerva," a tough atheist woman who runs an underground network of goods and services. Nerva is a civilian who was brought aboard a hijacked ark along with many others, simply due to geography and the fact they identified as atheists. Nerva lost a child to disease during the trip to Kepler – and often secretly looks out for children living in the colony.

Raised By Wolves is produced by Scott's Scott Free Productions, with Scott, Guzikowski, David W. Zucker (The Man in the High Castle), Jordan Sheehan (The Terror), Adam Kolbrenner (Prisoners) and Mark Huffam (The Martian) serving as executive producers.

Christoffersen is repped by Anne Lindberg, Lindberg Management. Jones is repped by John Hyslop and Sarah Roberts, United Agents. Santo is repped by i Artist Management. Harkness is repped by Sam Turnbull and Oriana Elia, Curtis Brown (UK). Engelbrecht is repped by Roddy Quinn, Real Management (SA). Saayeng is repped by Alastair Lindsey-Renton and Helen Clarkson at The Curtis Brown Group.

{blackbabes} Serena Williams captures first victory in more than three months

PARMA, Italy -- Serena Williams earned her first victory in more than three months by beating 17-year-old qualifier Lisa Pigato 6-3, 6-2 Monday in the first round of the Emilia-Romagna Open.

Williams, who accepted a wild-card invitation for the Parma tournament after losing her opening match at the Italian Open last week, dominated after dropping her serve in the opening game.

``I'm just starting to feel more comfortable. I've always felt super comfortable on the clay and this year has been a little more difficult than normal,'' said Williams, who served six aces. ``I think it was because of the long hiatus I've had (from) the clay.''

Williams hadn't won since beating Simona Halep in the Australian Open quarterfinals in February. She was eliminated from the year's first Grand Slam tournament by Naomi Osaka in the semifinals.

After some time off, Williams then lost in straight sets in Rome to Nadia Podoroska, a French Open semifinalist last year.

Williams is preparing for Roland Garros, which starts in two weeks. Her previous win on clay came in the first round of last year's tournament in Paris.

It was the first WTA tour match for Pigato and the 1,001st for Williams, a 23-time Grand Slam champion.

Pigato asked Williams to pose for a photo with her on court immediately after the match ended.

``It was really cool and gutsy,'' Williams said. ``She's going to look back (in) years and be like, `Well, this was my first match.' I wish I had done that with my first match, it would have been really cool.''

Ranked No. 572, Pigato won the girls' doubles title at last year's French Open with Eleonora Alvisi.

Williams will next face 68th-ranked Katerina Siniakova, who eliminated Danish teenager Clara Tauson 6-1, 6-3.

Also, former U.S. Open champion Sloane Stephens beat Catherine McNally 7-6 (4), 6-4 and Anna Karolina Schmiedlova rallied past Venus Williams 5-7, 6-2, 6-2.

{blackbabes} 'History maker' Williams crashes out of Italian Open in 1000th career match

Serena Williams, playing the 1000th WTA match of her career, crashed out of the Italian Open on Wednesday with a second round defeat to Argentina's Nadia Podoroska, weeks before her bid to make history at Roland Garros.

Williams, 39, lost 7-6 (8/6), 7-5 on her return after nearly three months away to a player 15 years her junior who was a surprise semi-finalist at last year's Roland Garros.

"You know, it's tough to have a first match on clay," said Williams, who has won 73 WTA titles over the past two decades.

"It was definitely kind of good to go the distance and to try to be out there, but clearly I can do legions better.

"Maybe I do need a few more matches, so I'm going to try to figure that out with my coach and my team and see what we would like to do."

Williams, a four-time Rome winner and 23-time Grand Slam champion, had not played since her semi-final defeat to Japan's Naomi Osaka in the Australian Open this year.

And the eighth seed found it tough going, losing in just under two hours to the 44th-ranked Argentine.

"Overall, it was good for me to play such a clay court player on clay today, but it's a little frustrating," she conceded.

"Yeah, just filling out the game, finding the rhythm. Even sliding and confidence with that, with movement, and just not wanting to break my ankle when I moved.

"That's always like a little struggle in the first two matches, and then I'm raring to go."

The early exit is a blow three weeks before the French Open in Paris on May 30 where the American continues her bid to equal Australia's Margaret Court's record of 24 Grand Slam trophies.

Despite a battling performance Williams could not wear down the 24-year-old who broke twice in the first set.

Podoroska forced a tie-break with an ace and squandered three set points before sealing the set.

In the second, Williams was trailing 5-2 but held and broke the Argentine to love while she served for the match to level at 5-5.

- 'Special win' for Podoroska -

Podoroska held her nerve to earn three match points to secure just her third career win over a top-10 player, all in the last eight months.

"It's a special win, she's a great athlete, she's done so many things for our sport," said Podoroska who next meets Croatia's Petra Martic.

"It's history most of all."

For Williams it was her 149th defeat, with 851 wins over the course of a WTA career spanning 1000 matches.

But she will not get to celebrate with the Rome public, with spectators only allowed from Thursday's third round at the Foro Italico while limited to a 25 percent capacity.

World number one Ashleigh Barty advanced to the third round with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Kazakh Yaroslava Shvedova.

But second seed Osaka of Japan slumped to a 7-6 (7/2), 6-2 loss to American Jessica Pegula.

Days after her shock defeat in the Madrid Open final, Barty overcame an early break of serve to see off Shvedova, a three-time Grand Slam quarter-finalist making her way back after giving birth to twins.

Playing with her left thigh strapped, the Australian dropped her opening service game but rallied to level at 4-4 as she won 11 of the final 13 games.

Barty will next meet 28th-ranked Russian Veronika Kudermetova as she bids for a first Rome quarter-final on her third appearance.

Osaka, a four-time Grand Slam winner, had received a first-round bye, but was unable to find her way back into the match after losing the first-set tie-break to her 31st-ranked opponent.

Osaka was playing just her third tournament since winning the Australian Open in February and also exited in the second round in Madrid earlier this month.

Osaka, the reigning US Open champion, has seven career hard-court titles, but has never managed to lift a clay-court trophy.

Former Rome champion Karolina Pliskova, seeded ninth, also advanced along with fifth seed Elina Svitolina of Ukraine.

{blackbabes} ‘Chicago Med’: Yaya DaCosta & Torrey DeVitto Exit NBC Drama, Remaining Original Cast Members To Return

As NBC's Chicago Med is heading into its seventh season, the medical drama is bidding farewell to two original cast members, Yaya DaCosta (ex-Cassandra, AMC) and Torrey DeVitto. DaCosta already has lined up a new series starring role on Fox's Our Kind Of People. Meanwhile, DeVitto has joined the cast of indie feature Skelly.

The departures come as the initial contracts of Chicago Med's original cast are coming up at the end of Season 6. I hear DeCosta opted to leave at the end of her contract and quickly received an offer for the lead in Our Kind Of People.

The other Chicago Med original cast members, led by S. Epatha Merkerson and Oliver Platt, are expected to return for Season 7, sources said. Merkerson is believed to have closed a new deal, with the remaining actors, including Platt, Nick Gehlfuss, Brian Tee and Marlyne Barrett, in various stages of negotiations to continue on the show, I hear.

For the past six seasons, DaCosta starred as ER nurse April Sexton, while DeVitto played Dr. Natalie Manning, an emergency pediatrics specialist, on Chicago Med as well as in crossover episodes on Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D.

Like the other Chicago series, Chicago Med is one year into a three-season pickup. In Live+Same Day total viewers, it is the most watched NBC series this season. The medical drama has been anchoring NBC's formidable One Chicago Wednesday lineup at 8 PM. All three Chicago dramas are produced by Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television.

DeVitto joins John Palladino, Brian Cox and Judah Abner Paul in the cast of Skelly, written/directed by Matthew Greene-DeLange and produced by Rob Goodrich and Jason Armstrong of Walk Like A Duck Entertainment and Ellyn Vander Wyden.

Skelly centers on 11-year-old Jonah whose grandfather dies plunging his dad into a state of grief that Jonah can't comprehend. It triggers an obsession with mortality for Jonah as he and his friends put together the annual haunted house. DeVitto will play the boy's mom.

"Skelly is heartwarming film that takes children and parents alike back to the curiosity and creativity of Halloween and family bonding. Torrey embodies the warmth and encouragement of a Mom supporting her son and his friends and brings a world class talent to what we expect to be a inviting and fun film for Halloween this year," the film's production company, Walk Like A Duck Entertainment, said in a statement.

Filming on Skelly is slated to begin May 20 in Berkshires, Massachusetts.
