{blackbabes} ‘Meghan Markle: Escaping The Crown’ Documentary Kicks Off New ‘Vice Versa’ Series For Vice TV

Meghan Markle's struggles will be spotlighted as the first subject of a new documentary series from Vice TV.

Vice Versa: Meghan Markle Escaping The Crown will premiere Tuesday, March 10 at 9 PM ET/PT. Produced by the UK-based production company ITN Productions, the hour-long special takes a deep dive into the rapid rise and unraveling of the Duchess of Sussex.

The report investigates the role that the monarchy and British tabloid media played in vilifying Markle. As the saga continues with Harry and Meghan's loss of royal branding, the documentary confronts issues of race, prejudice, and obsession in a story that now threatens to upend one of the longest-running institutions in the world. The episode features exclusive interviews with palace insiders and experts, including William and Harry's former butler, the American wives of the British aristocracy, and royal correspondents.

The documentary is Vice TV's first release for Vice Versa, a new series of independent documentary specials that Vice says will give voice to radical and unapologetic points of view. The stories featured will tackle broken systems and corrupt power structures head on.

"Our flagship documentary series Vice Versa will serve as a hub for compelling storytelling that shakes the status quo and awakens viewers to new ideas.  We take differing points of view of well known stories and topics." said Morgan Hertzan, EVP and general manager Vice Television. "Meghan Markle Escaping The Crown is a prime example of a point of view you won't hear elsewhere – we're tackling this subject in a confrontational way to say what's really happening."

Vice Versa: Meghan Markle Escaping The Crown will be available on Vice TV via all major satellite and cable providers,  ViceTV.com; and the Vice TV app via iOS, Android, Apple TV, and Chromecast.

{blackbabes} General Hospital adds Passions vet Brook Kerr

EST

Whitney Russell Harris-Crane, is that really you?

Brook Kerr, who played the aforementioned character on NBC's old sudser Passions, is returning to daytime dramas in March, EW can exclusively reveal. She'll join General Hospital as a new doctor, and EW has the first look!

Not much else is known about Kerr's character, who will show up in Port Charles on March 5. But daytime fans — especially those who loved Passions — should remember Kerr's portrayal as Whitney, the daughter of Eve and T.C. Russell. The Russells were one of the core families in the fictitious town of Harmony on Passions, which aired on NBC from 1999-2007 and then on DirecTV from 2007-08. Kerr's character was memorable because of her relationship with Chad (played by Donn Swaby and Charles Divins), whom everyone initially thought was her half-brother. Whitney even became a nun to absolve herself of the shame! But alas, she and Chad were not blood relatives so they ended up getting hitched.

Kerr left Passions in 2007 under the guise that her character moved to New Orleans. Her most recent roles include stints on Hawaii Five-0 and Westworld, as well as The Grinder, NCIS: Los Angeles, and True Blood.

General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC.

{blackbabes} ‘Pennyworth’ Adds Five New Series Regulars As Production Begins On Season 2

James Purefoy Edward Hogg Jessye Romeo Ramon Tikaram Harriet Slater

James Purefoy (The Following, Sex Education), Edward Hogg (Taboo, Harlots), Jessye Romeo (Curfew, In the Long Run), Ramon Tikaram (Brassic, The Victim) and Harriet Slater (Faunutland and the Lost Magic) are set as series regulars opposite Jack Bannon for the upcoming second season of Epix's DC origin story Pennyworth, from Warner Horizon Scripted Television. Purefoy, Hogg and Romeo are new cast members for the upcoming season, and Tikaram and Slater, who recurred in season 1, have been promoted to series regulars.  The 10-episode sophomore season began production in the UK in January at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, with an eye towards a summer 2020 premiere on Epix.

The one-hour drama series follows Alfred Pennyworth (Bannon), a former British SAS soldier in his 20s, who forms a security company in 1960s London and goes to work with young billionaire Thomas Wayne (Ben Aldridge), who has not yet become Bruce Wayne's father.

Purefoy will play Captain Gulliver Troy. Alfie's former SAS Captain, Gulliver Troy is a charismatic, cultured brute and a powerful man of appetites – whether that be drink, women or danger.

Hogg will portray Colonel Salt. A would-be despot masquerading as an obedient civil servant, Salt is a calculating killer, whether by pen or sword.

Romeo will play Katie Browning. An idealistic art student whose life is uprooted by civil war, Katie is righteous, defiant and wonderfully naive.

Tikaram is Inspector Victor Aziz. Season one's charming, sardonic Inspector Aziz returns, keeping his clear head and dry wit even as London descends into chaos.

Slater is Sandra Onslow. Budding 60s starlet, Alfie's on-again-off-again girlfriend, Sandra, is now resident singer in his club, with dreams of becoming the next Sandie Shaw.

In addition to Bannon, returning cast members for season 2 are Emma Paetz, Hainsley Lloyd Bennett, Ryan Fletcher, Dorothy Atkinson and Polly Walker, with Jason Flemyng and featuring multi-award-winning recording artist Paloma Faith.

Pennyworth is from executive producer/writer Bruno Heller (Gotham, The Mentalist) and executive producer/director Danny Cannon (Gotham, CSI series). The series is based characters created for DC by Bob Kane with Bill Finger.

{blackbabes} ‘Upload’: Kevin Bigley, Allegra Edwards & Zainab Johnson To Star In Amazon Series; Three More Cast

Kevin Bigley Allegra Edwards Zainab Johnson

Kevin Bigley (Undone), Allegra Edwards (New Girl) and Zainab Johnson (American Koko) are set as series regulars opposite Robbie Ammell and Andy Allo in Amazon's sci-fi comedy series Upload, from The Office creator Greg Daniels. Additionally, Elizabeth Bowen (Fargo), William B Davis (The X-Files) and Owen Daniels (Youth and Consequences) have been cast in major recurring roles.

Created by Greg Daniels, Upload is set in a technologically advanced future where hologram phones, 3D food printers and automated grocery stores are the norm. Most uniquely, humans can choose to be "uploaded" into a virtual afterlife when they find themselves near death.

The series follows a young app developer, Nathan Brown (Amell), who winds up in the hospital following a self-driving car accident, needing to quickly decide his fate. After a rushed deliberation with his shallow girlfriend Ingrid (Edwards), he chooses to be uploaded to her family's luxurious virtual afterlife, the Horizen company's "Lakeview." Once uploaded in Lakeview, Nathan meets his customer service "angel" Nora Anthony (Allo), who at first is his charismatic concierge and guide but quickly becomes his friend and confidante, helping him navigate this new digital extension of life.

Bigley will play Luke Crossley. Veteran of a future war with Iran, he appreciates Upload for restoring his complete body, and the many luxuries, but pushes back against all the rules, hacking freebies wherever he can.

Edwards is Ingrid Kannerman. Blond, very beautiful but intense, she is Nathan's steady girlfriend. Proud of her family's unlimited Horizen data plan, she convinces Nathan to upload himself to Horizen's Lakeview digital afterlife on her account, where he becomes her property.

Johnson portrays Aleesha Morrison Downey. The customer service "angel" at the desk next to Nora's, ambitious Aleesha has several other part-time jobs. Her Lakeview clients include Luke and David Choak, and they often are troublesome.

Elizabeth Bowen William Davis Owen Daniels

Bowen recurs as Fran Booth, a middle school gym teacher who likes puzzles, Fran becomes suspicious that her cousin Nathan's death is not just a car accident and starts to investigate.

Davis is David Choak, a powerful dead billionaire. Choak has bought himself a better digital afterlife than everyone else. Cynical and smug, Choak feels his wealth proves that he deserves it.

Owen Daniels recurs as A.I. Guy. For the convenience of the guests, the virtual hotel staff such as bellboys and gardeners are all the same avatar, a cheerful young red-headed man. This ubiquitous piece of artificial intelligence annoys the hell out of Nathan.

Greg Daniels serves as executive producer along with Howard Klein.

Known for his role as Brian in Sirens, Bigley also can be seen in Amazon's original series Undone opposite Rosa Salazar. He most recently completed filming the independent feature Rollers.

Edwards' recent TV credits include Friends from College, Orange Is the New Black, The Mindy Project, New Girl and Modern Family.

Johnson most recently can be seen on Epix's Unprotected Sets and has appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers, BET's Comic View, MTV's Acting Out and at the Melbourne Comedy Festival.

Bowen currently recurs on Syfy/UCP series Resident Alien as Deputy Liv Baker and as Nancy on Hulu's Woke. She's repped by David Whitmey of Moving Pictures Talent & Entertainment Group.

Davis is best known for his work as the iconic Cigarette Smoking Man in Fox's The X-Files and has recurred on Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Continuum and Smallville, among other credits.

Daniels created YouTube Talk Show with Owen Daniels and sold the rights and format to NBCUniversal. He has been seen in shows such as Youth and Consequences and Family Guy. He also serves as a story editor on Upload.

{blackbabes} Madam Secretary's Patina Miller to Star in Power Prequel Series Raising Kanan

Madam Secretary's Patina Miller is set to star as one tough mother in Power Book III: Raising Kanan, Starz's 1990s-set Power prequel spinoff that will follow the early years of Kanan Stark.

Miller will play Raquel "Raq" Thomas, a "cold, hard, fierce… successful and deadly woman taking names in a man's world," per the official character description provided by Starz. "She is tough, resolute, ruthless and yet, Raq is still capable of love. Great love. The sole recipient of that affection is her son, Kanan — he is everything to her. As much as she cares for him though, there are many instances where one wonders if she loves him for who he is, or if she loves him merely as an extension of herself. The middle child of three, Raq also carries the heavy burden as the earner for her two brothers. Raq is the sun, and everyone else in her universe exists in her orbit."

Franchise EP and former star Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson portrayed the adult version of Kanan on the mothership series.

In addition to playing press coordinator Daisy Grant on CBS' recently-wrapped Madam Secretary, Miller appeared in PBS' Civil War-era drama Mercy Street. On the big screen, she played Commander Paylor in Hunger Games: Mockingjay Parts 1 and 2.

Raising Kanan is one of four Power offshoots currently in-the-works at Starz, joining Power Book II: Ghost, which picks up after the events of the flagship series and which stars several of that show's cast members; Power Book IV: Influence, a series centered on Rashad Tate as he continues his unrelenting quest for power; and Power Book V: Force, which will follow Tommy as he leaves New York behind.

{blackbabes} Thandie Newton To Star In Neo-Western Thriller ‘God’s Country’

Westworld Emmy winning actress Thandie Newton will headline Julian Higgins' feature directorial debut God's Country for Cold Iron Pictures and The Film Arcade, Deadline has learned.

The neo-Western thriller is set in the bleak winter landscape of the Mountain West. Newton plays a college professor living on her own at the edge of the national forest. One day she confronts two hunters trespassing on her land, triggering a battle of wills with dangerous ramifications.

Screenwriter Shaye Ogbonna adapted the script with Higgins from James Lee Burke's short story Winter Light. Burke is The New York Times bestselling author of the Dave Robicheaux detective series and numerous other novels. He has received two Edgar Awards and the Grand Master Award from the Mystery Writers of America, as well as a Guggenheim Fellowship for Creative Arts in Fiction and a nomination for the Pulitzer Prize. Burke's 40th novel will be released this year.

Cold Iron's CEO Miranda Bailey and Amanda Marshall are producing the film, along with Halee Bernard and Higgins. Anthony Ciardelli and The Film Arcade's Jason Beck will serve as EPs. ICM Partners is representing the film, which starts principal photography this week in Montana.

"Julian and Shaye's radical new take on James Lee Burke's story is a nuanced response to the times in which we live," said Bailey. "We are thrilled to be working on this powerful film that puts Thandie's remarkable acting talent front and center."

Higgins is a Los Angeles-based writer-director whose short films have screened at over a hundred festivals around the globe and won dozens of prizes, including the gold medal Student Academy Award and two Student Emmy awards for his AFI thesis film, Thief. His most recent short, Winter Light, was a top-ten finalist for the 2016 Academy Award for Best Live Action Short. Higgins made his television directorial debut with one of the final episodes of House, and has since executive produced and directed Seasons 2 & 3 of the anthology drama series Guidance, streaming on Hulu. Higgins is repped by Good Fear Content.

Newton is going into her third season of HBO's Westworld on March 15. She won a Primetime Emmy last year for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her turn as Maeve Millay, the robotic seductress who goes hellbent on revenge in season 2. She was also nominated for back to back Golden Globe Awards as well as two SAG Awards.  Newton also starred in the Oscar Best Picture Crash for which she received the BAFTA for Best Actress in a Supporting Role and a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. She starred as the title character in Jonathan Demme's Beloved, opposite Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible 2, alongside Will Smith in The Pursuit of Happyness, as well as Chiwetel Ejiofor in Half a Yellow Sun. Other film credits include Ron Howard's Solo: A Star Wars Story, Tyler Perry's Good Deeds and For Colored Girls opposite Whoopi Goldberg, the Merchant-Ivory picture Jefferson In Paris, and Oliver Stone's W.  Newton will next be seen starring in Lisa Joy's Reminiscene opposite Hugh Jackman for Warner Bros. {blackbabes} Saved by the Bell's Lark Voorhies 'Slighted and Hurt' About Being Excluded From Revival

One of Bayside's most beloved (and fashionable) alumni is unlikely to appear in the Saved by the Bell revival.

Lark Voorhies, who played Lisa Turtle, the apple of Screech Powers' eye on the original NBC sitcom, claims that no one has reached out to her about a role in the highly anticipated offshoot.

The former child star, who was previously diagnosed with bipolar disorder, appears on Wednesday's episode of The Dr. Oz Show (check your local listings) and opens up about not being invited to myriad cast reunions. She also reads aloud a journal entry about being excluded from the forthcoming revival series.

"I have to admit I did feel a bit slighted and hurt when I was not invited to be part of the Saved by the Bell reunion, as well as other cast members events," she says. "Yet, of course, I also realized that having this puzzling disorder may have played a major part in that factual decision. With that in mind, I am truly thankful for having had the chance to work on a show that has been so successful."

The third video finds Voorhies discussing her continued battle with mental illness alongside her mother, Tricia Voorhies, and her psychiatrist, Dr. Shahla Modir.

As previously reported, original cast members Mario Lopez and Elizabeth Berkley are set to star in the single-camera SBTB revival, which hails from Tracey Wigfield (30 Rock, The Mindy Project). Mark-Paul Gosselaar is also set to guest-star in three episodes (and serve as an executive producer), while Tiffani Thiessen is expected to appear in "some capacity."

According to the official logline, Zack — who is now the governor of California — lands in hot water for closing too many low-income high schools. When he suggests sending the affected students to the highest-performing schools in the state, including Bayside High, the influx of new students "gives the overprivileged Bayside kids a much-needed and hilarious dose of reality."

Rounding out the cast are Mitchell Hoog (Roswell, New Mexico) as Mac Morris, "the handsome, charming, privileged son" of Gosselaar's beloved slacker; Belmont Cameli (Empire) as Jamie Spano, "the captain of the Bayside football team and Jessie's sensitive man-child son"; Haskiri Velazquez (The Birch) as Daisy, a "smart, ambitious" sophomore who attends Bayside after her high school gets shut down; Alycia Pascual-Pena (Chase) as Aisha, Daisy's "ultra-competitive" BFF who tries out for Bayside's football team; Josie Totah (Champions) as sharp-tongued cheerleader Lexi, and John Michael Higgins (Great News) as the beleaguered Principal Toddman.

HanWay Films will launch sales at the EFM on writer-director Jasmine McGlade's drama Fencer, which is set to star Zoe Saldana (Avengers: Endgame).

Set in the competitive world of fencing, Saldana is attached to play Mae, an ambitious female athlete facing personal demons and childhood rivals as she vies for a spot on the U.S. Olympic team. The film is inspired by McGlade's own experiences as a national champion fencer. McGlade capped her tenure at Harvard by leading her team to the school's first-ever NCAA Championship title.

Casey Affleck (Manchester By the Sea) is producing with Whitaker Lader. Affleck and Lader previously teamed up on Light of My Life and Mona Fastvold's The World To Come starring Vanessa Kirby and Katherine Waterston, currently in post-production.

Also producing are McGlade, and Claudia Bluemhuber of Silver Reel (The Wife), which is also financing. Imagine Entertainment (Apollo 13) will executive produce. UTA Independent Film Group and CAA Media Finance are co-repping the U.S.

McGlade commented, "As a writer and filmmaker I seek to tell brazen, character-driven stories about people who are flawed, and thus real. Especially women. Characters who are their own worst enemies and yet incredibly resilient. Fencer is a celebration of perseverance and sacrifice, while also a cautionary tale about the dangers of getting one's sense of worth and security solely through achievement and external validation. Fencer will provide one of the screen's first realistic glimpses into the thrilling world of fencing, much more demanding and diverse than stereotypes may suggest, and an intimate and intense look into the minds and lives of female athletes. It is a dream come true to get to work with Zoe on Fencer, and to marry my two greatest passions: filmmaking and fencing."

Affleck and Lader added, "We feel so lucky to be a part of Fencer, which is an unflinchingly honest look at an ambitious, complex woman whose relationships and motivations defy simple categorization. The powerful script forces us to ask ourselves some of life's most fundamental questions: 'What defines you? Is it your work, reputation, relationships? What matters most to you and what will you do to protect that?' We immediately fell in love with Jasmine's unique story and perspective, and since partnering have been blown away by her intelligence, creativity, and tireless work ethic."

{blackbabes} ‘Loki’: Gugu Mbatha-Raw Joins Marvel Series On Disney+

Gugu Mbatha-Raw

Coming off Apple's The Morning Show, Gugu Mbatha-Raw is heading to another streaming drama. The British actress has been cast in Loki, the Disney+ series starring Tom Hiddleston as the trickster demi-god and brother to Thor, I have learned.

As is the case with every Marvel project, details about Mbatha-Raw's role are under wraps, but I hear it is a prominent character, described as the female lead. In addition to Hiddleston, the only actor who has been confirmed by Marvel/Disney, Mbatha-Raw joins fellow cast members Owen Wilson and Sophia Di Martino in the series. Marvel had no comment.

In the new Marvel Studios series, Hiddleston returns as the mercurial Loki, the Asgardian god of mischief and everyone's favorite Marvel villain, in stories that take place after the events of Avengers: Endgame. with There likely will be a tie-in to the May 2021 supernatural sequel Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.

Like all Marvel shows for Disney+, Loki is executive produced by studio chief Kevin Feige. The series' writer, Michael Waldron, and director, Kate Herron, also executive produce. Filming is underway in Atlanta for a targeted spring 2021 debut.

Mbatha-Raw was a series regular on the first season of Apple TV+ drama series The Morning Show, starring opposite Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon and Steve Carell. On the big screen, she most recently starred in Motherless Brooklyn, alongside Edward Norton and Willem Dafoe. She will next be seen in the British comedy-drama Misbehaviour, starring alongside Keira Knightley and Jessie Buckley, and in Come Away, starring opposite Angelina Jolie and David Oyelowo. Additionally, she has completed production on World War II drama Summerland.

This marks Mbatha-Raw's return to the Disney fold after her co-starring roles in A Wrinkle in Time and Beauty and the Beast.

{blackbabes} ‘Game Of Thrones’ Alum Nathalie Emmanuel Joins Kevin Hart In Quibi Series ‘Die Hart’

Game of Thrones alumna Nathalie Emmanuel is set to star opposite Kevin Hart and John Travolta in Quibi comedic action series Die Hart (fka Action Scene). Production begins this month in Atlanta.

Written by Tripper Clancy and Derek Kolstad and directed by Eric Appel, in Die Hart, Hart plays a fictionalized version of himself who's tired of being the comedic sidekick. He gets his wish when a famous director offers him his dream – to be a leading man action star – but there's a catch: Kevin must first train at the world's greatest action star school, run by a lunatic (Travolta). Pushed to his limits by this action school coach and a tough-minded rival student (Emmanuel), Kevin must survive a series of hilarious, over-the-top action sequences and face his fears if he wants to achieve his dream and land the role of a lifetime.

Die Hart is the first production of its kind from Laugh Out Loud. Hart executive produces with Candice Wilson, Bryan Smiley and Jeff Clanagan, Laugh Out Loud's President and Hart's long-time business partner serving as producers on the project.

Emmanuel will next be seen in the ninth installment of the Fast & Furious franchise reprising the role of computer hacker Ramsey for the third time. She previously starred as Missandei in HBO's hit series Game of Thrones as well as Hulu's miniseries Four Weddings & a Funeral. Emmanuel is repped by ICM Partners, AJ Management in UK, Untitled Entertainment and Goodman Genow.
