{blackbabes} Venus Williams out of Brisbane International with injury

BRISBANE, Australia (AP) -- Venus Williams has been forced to pull out of the Brisbane International following an undisclosed "setback" in training.

Tournament officials said Wednesday a replacement for the 52nd-ranked Williams will be named on Thursday. Williams had been given a wild card for the Brisbane event which starts Jan. 6.

The 39-year-old Williams still hopes to contest the Adelaide International from Jan. 13.

"Unfortunately I won't be starting my season in Brisbane due to an unexpected setback during my training," she said in a statement on Wednesday. "I look forward to being in Australia in the New Year and will see everyone at Adelaide."

{blackbabes} Usual suspects dominate in dream decade for Djokovic, Serena

Usual suspects dominate in dream decade for Djokovic, Serena stuck on 23

Novak Djokovic led the way in a decade of dominance in men's tennis but it was a very different story in the women's game, as 20 different players claimed grand slam titles.

Djokovic won all but one of his 16 majors in the previous 10 years, with Rafael Nadal adding 13 to his tally to move just one adrift of Roger Federer's record haul of 20.

Only six men were grand slam champions in the past decade; Federer on five occasions, Stan Wawrinka and Andy Murray securing three apiece and Marin Cilic winning the 2014 US Open.

It has been much more difficult to predict which women will land the big prizes in the game, summed up by the fact there were four different winners in 2019.

Ash Barty and Bianca Andreescu claimed maiden major titles, while Naomi Osaka and Simona Halep won their second to prevent Serena Williams from matching Margaret Court's record total of 24.

We look back at how the leading lights have measured up in the 2010s and take a glimpse at what might unfold in the next 10 years.

RAFA CLOSING IN, SWEET 16 FOR DJOKOVIC

Nadal won three of the four majors in 2010 and added another two this year, further trimming Federer's advantage.

World number one Nadal only failed to win the French Open twice in the decade, while Djokovic was a six-time Australian Open champion and scooped a quintet of Wimbledon crowns.

Federer has been stuck on 20 grand slam triumphs since going back-to-back in Australia in 2018, with the most recent seven won by either Djokovic or Nadal.

Not since Wawrinka's success at Flushing Meadows in 2016 has a player other than Nadal, Djokovic or Federer won a men's grand slam singles title.

SERENA WINS A DOZEN, BUT SHORT OF COURT

Williams confirmed her status as one of the all-time greats by winning a further 12 major singles titles since the turn of the decade.

The 38-year-old has remained on 23 since defeating her sister, Venus, when she was pregnant in the 2017 Australian Open final.

Williams has lost all four major finals since the birth of her daughter, Alexis Olympia, including the past two against Halep and Andreescu at Wimbledon and in New York respectively.

Angelique Kerber claimed three grand slams in the 2010s, while Kim Clijsters, Maria Sharapova, Li Na, Victoria Azarenka, Petra Kvitova, Halep, Garbine Muguruza and Osaka won two apiece.

ONUS ON NEXT GEN MEN TO STEP UP

While there had been concerns over what was to come with so many legends heading towards, or already in, the twilight of their careers, exciting talent has emerged in both the men

While there were concerns over what was to come with so many legends heading towards, or already in, the twilight of their careers, exciting talent has emerged in both the men's and women's game.

Canadian teenager Andreescu capped a breakthrough season by winning the US Open, while world number one Barty is only 23 and the likes of Halep still have plenty of time on their side.

With Federer aged 38, Nadal 33, Djokovic 32 and Murray - hoping to work his way back up the rankings after recovering from hip surgery - also in his 30s, there will be a changing of the guard in the next decade.

Stefanos Tsitsipas gave another example of his huge potential by winning the ATP Finals title, while Dominic Thiem has been beaten by Nadal in the past two French Open finals.

Daniil Medvedev, Alexander Zverev, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov will also be hoping to come of age in the 2020s.

{blackbabes} Some stats that show how Serena Williams dominated a decade

Here is a sampling of some statistics that help demonstrate how much Serena Williams dominated women's tennis from 2010-19, based on information provided by the WTA:

- Her record was 377-45, meaning she won 89.3% of her matches.

- She won 37 titles; no one else had more than 26 (Petra Kvitova).

- She was ranked No. 1 for 196 weeks; that's more time spent atop the sport over the decade than the next two women combined.

- She reached the finals at 52.7% of the tournaments she entered; next on the list is Maria Sharapova at 29.2%.

- She won 12 Grand Slam singles titles in the decade; Angelique Kerber, with three, is the only other woman who won more than two major championships over that time.

- She reached the finals at 19 of the 33 major tournaments she entered, a 57.6% rate.

{blackbabes} Serena Williams aces AP Female Athlete of the Decade honors

Serena Williams dominated the decade, on the court and in conversation.

There were, to begin with, the dozen Grand Slam single titles - no other woman had more than three over the past 10 seasons - and the 3 1/2 years in a row at No. 1 in the WTA rankings.

And then there was the celebrity status that transcended tennis, making everything she did and said newsworthy, whether it was the triumphs and trophies and fashion statements or the disputes with tournament officials, the magazine covers or the Super Bowl ad with a message about women's power, the birth of her daughter or the health scare that followed.

Still winning matches and reaching Grand Slam finals into her late 30s, still mattering as much as ever, Williams was selected by The Associated Press as the Female Athlete of the Decade on Saturday after a vote by AP member sports editors and AP beat writers.

The AP Male Athlete of the Decade will be announced Sunday.

''When the history books are written, it could be that the great Serena Williams is the greatest athlete of all time. ... I like to call it the 'Serena Superpowers' - that champion's mindset. Irrespective of the adversity and the odds that are facing her, she always believes in herself,'' said Stacey Allaster, CEO of the WTA from 2009-15 and now chief executive for professional tennis at the U.S. Tennis Association, which runs the U.S. Open.

''Whether it was health issues; coming back; having a child; almost dying from that - she has endured it all and she is still in championship form,'' Allaster said. ''Her records speak for themselves.''

Gymnast Simone Biles, the 2019 AP Female Athlete of the Year, finished second to Williams in voting for the decade honor, followed by swimmer Katie Ledecky. Two ski racers were next, with Lindsey Vonn finishing fourth and Mikaela Shiffrin fifth.

Three of Williams' five AP Female Athlete of the Year awards came during the last decade, in 2013, 2015 and 2018. She also won in 2002 and 2009.

''She's been my idol growing up,'' Biles said.

''She's remained humble. She's stayed true to herself and her character and I think that's really neat about an athlete,'' Biles said. ''Once you start winning, some get cocky, but she's stayed true to herself, win or lose.''

It's the defeats that seem to drive Williams, helping propel her to heights rarely reached by any athlete in any sport.

''Whenever I lose, I get more determined, and it gives me something more to work toward,'' Williams said in a 2013 interview with the AP. ''I don't get complacent, and I realize I need to work harder and I need to do better and I want to do better - or I wouldn't be playing the game.''

With a best-in-the-game serve, powerful groundstrokes and relentless court coverage, she has won 23 Grand Slam singles titles, more than anyone else in her sport's professional era, which began in 1968.

More than half came from 2010-19: four at Wimbledon, three apiece at the U.S. Open and Australian Open, two at the French Open. That includes a run of four in a row from the U.S. Open in 2014 through Wimbledon in 2015, her second self-styled ''Serena Slam.''

Williams also was the runner-up another seven times at major tournaments over the past decade, including four of the seven she's entered since returning to the tour after having a baby in 2017.

In all, she made the final at 19 of the 33 majors she entered during the decade, a nearly 58% rate.

The decade began inauspiciously in 2010, when Williams cut her feet on broken glass at a restaurant and was hospitalized with blood clots in her lungs.

Among her many accomplishments, though:

- reaching at least one Slam final every year, a streak that dates to 2007;

- winning gold medals in singles and doubles (with her sister, Venus) at the 2012 Olympics;

- becoming the oldest woman to win a Grand Slam singles trophy in the professional era;

- becoming the oldest No. 1 in WTA history and equaling Steffi Graf's record for most consecutive weeks atop the rankings;

- leading the tour with 37 singles titles, 11 more than anyone else in the decade.

The day she won Wimbledon in 2016, Williams discussed the way she constantly measures herself.

''I definitely feel like when I lose, I don't feel as good about myself,'' she said.

''But then I have to, like, remind myself that: 'You are Serena Williams!' You know? Like, 'Are you kidding me?''' Williams continued with a laugh. ''And it's those moments that I have to just, like, come off and be like, 'Serena, do you know what you've done? Who you are? What you continue to do, not only in tennis (but also) off the court? Like, you're awesome.'''

{blackbabes} Serena Williams, Wozniacki to play doubles in New Zealand

AUCKLAND, New Zealand (AP) -- Long-time friends Serena Williams and Caroline Wozniacki will play doubles together for the first time at the WTA Tour's ASB Classic in Auckland beginning on Jan. 6.

Former No. 1 Wozniacki has started her season in Auckland every year since 2015 and has made the hard court tournament the first stop of her short farewell tour.

The 29-year-old Wozniacki was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis shortly after winning her the 2018 Australian Open and will retire from tennis after playing the Open in Melbourne next month.

Williams, a 23-time Grand Slam winner, has not played doubles with anyone other than her sister Venus since the Fed Cup World Group playoff in 2015. Her last WTA tournament in doubles without Venus was in 2002.

Wozniacki hasn't played doubles for more than three years.

The pair are close friends. Williams was Wozniacki's bridesmaid at her wedding earlier this year and will play an exhibition in Copenhagen in May, Wozniacki's final match before retirement.

''We've been wanting to play doubles together for a long time but it just hasn't worked out so I'm really excited that it's finally going to happen, especially at one of my favorite tournaments on tour,'' Wozniacki said. ''It's going to be so much fun!''

''This is a pairing that I think tennis fans have been waiting to see for a long time,'' tournament director Karl Budge said Tuesday. ''To have Serena and Caroline on court together, on the same side of the net, is an amazing opportunity for tennis fans to see history being made.''

{blackbabes} Anika Noni Rose To Be Possessed By Evil In Supernatural Horror ‘Limbo’

Dreamgirls star Anika Noni Rose is about to be part of a horrific nightmare. The Tony Award-winning actress is set to star in the recently greenlit horror Limbo from Miramax, Barnyard Projects and Snoot Entertainment. Production is scheduled to begin in January.

The film is directed by Chris Peckover, who co-wrote the film with Matthew Jennison. The story follows a young mother whose body becomes possessed by something evil, rendering her a disembodied spirit and a ghost in her own house. As this demonic double takes over her life and threatens to harm her family, she must find a way to protect her loved ones while also finding a way back to her body before it's too late.

"I love it! It's so exciting to me!" Rose told Deadline in regard to her first lead role in a supernatural horror. With Limbo, it looks as though Rose is gaining more traction in the horror-thriller department as she said she has been getting lots of genre scripts in her inbox as of late. She can also be seen in Malik Vitthal's forthcoming thriller Body Cam and will appear in Amazon's Them: Covenant, the first season of the anthology horror series from executive producers Lena Waithe and writer and Little Marvin.

Rose points out that even though Limbo is all about a possession of a woman, there is more nuance and subtext to the story which features a family dealing with loss. It deals with gentrification happening to the family, familial love, how to express emotion and how family communication breaks down and in turn, breaks down everything around us. But out of everything, Rose connected with the theme of grief that is embedded in the movie.

"As an American culture, we don't deal with grief. When something hits us that's huge and insurmountable, we don't always know how to move through that and take our family with us instead of becoming an island of pain," she said. "Many of us in the country right now are experiencing extreme grief and loss. There are many of us in the country that are grieving who we thought we were as a country and Americans. We are watching horror every single day on the news and we are wondering how do we deal with that, process it, make it better and connect?"

Rose said that Limbo echoes Robert Zemeckis' horror What Lies Beneath starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Harrison Ford, saying that we can expect quiet psychologically tense moments as well as traditional instances of "Oh my God!" jump scares.

Peckover, who is known for indie fare like Better Watch Out and Undocumented, is an up and comer and Rose finds it exciting to work with new voices that haven't been heard or put in a box by Hollywood. "You still have someone who is trying to carve their own path and do things in a fresh way," she said of working with new directors.  "It allows you to have the freedom to play in different ways. You have the opportunity to create a vision and create something new."

The feature film will be produced by former Lionsgate CMO Tim Palen under his Barnyard Projects banner, and Keith and Jess Calder of Snoot Entertainment. Chris Harding will serve as a Co-Producer for Snoot Entertainment. Miramax is financing.

In addition to Limbo, Body Cam and Them: Covenant, Rose can be seen in the forthcoming Hulu adaptation of Celeste Ng's Little Fires Everywhere with Kerry Washington and Reese Witherspoon

Rose is repped by Innovative Artists, David Williams Management, Goodmanagement and Schreck Rose Dapello Adams Berlin & Dunham.

They are joining Molly C. Quinn and Jake Horowitz in the pic which Mickey Reece wrote and is directing. The film will follow rumors of demonic possession at a religious convent which prompt a church investigation into the strange goings-on among its nuns. A disaffected priest and his neophyte are confronted with temptation, bloodshed, and a crisis of faith. Shooting will begin in January. QWGmire is co-producing alongside Divide/Conquer with QWGmire's Elan Gale, Mathew Welty and Quinn, as well as Divide/Conquer's Adam Hendricks, Greg Gilreath and Zac Locke all serving as exec producers. The story is about a dysfunctional family that battles for the head (literally) and soul of its patriarch. Paolo Spersoni (Nero) is dying of cancer and his grandson Max (DuJardin) has plans for a cryonics company to sever his grandfather's head and freeze it immediately after his death so his papa can one day be reanimated and resurrected. Max's boozy mother, Laura (Fenn), a wayward Catholic, thinks that cutting off and freezing her father's head is immoral. A battle for Paolo's head and soul erupts. The film is currently shooting in Los Angeles. Kozlov, Natalia Dar, Sergei Savtchuk, Yuri Ponomarev, and David Roberson are producing the pic with Nero serving as the executive producer.

***

Cameron Douglas (son of Michael Douglas: Loaded, It Runs in the Family), Elisabeth Röhm (Bombshell, American Hustle ), Eric Balfour (Haven, Six Feet Under) and newcomer Edouard Phillipponnat will star in The Runner, directed by Michelle Danner. Written by Jason Chase Tyrrell, the thriller is about a troubled young high school student (Phillipponnat) who was charged with drug possession and who is forced to go undercover to expose a drug kingpin. Jessica Amlee, Kyle Jones, Nadji Jeter, and Kerri Medders co-star. Danner is producing the pic, her sixth directorial project to date. She's also a well-known acting coach who has taught actors like Christian Slater, Salma Hayek, Gerard Butler, Seth MacFarlane, Penelope Cruz, Chris Rock, Gabrielle Union, and Zooey Deschanel.

{blackbabes} High Fidelity Teaser: Zoë Kravitz Explores Heartbreak and Humor Through Classic Top Five Lists

Rakuten.ca - Amazon.com - Classmates - HideOut.tv - GameStop - Work From Home

Video: https://youtu.be/WpDx9msKh_Q

A teaser trailer for Hulu's High Fidelity finds Zoë Kravitz (Big Little Lies) taking lead on the gender-flipped, 10-episode "departure" from the novel and film of the same name, delivering a helplessly romantic journey through one character's "desert island, all-time, top five most memorable heartbreaks."

Releasing all episodes on Friday, Feb. 14, High Fidelity tells the story of Rob (Kravitz), a female record store owner in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, who's trying to get over her past relationships through the lens of her favorite records and pop culture. In the clip above, Rob recounts the tale of an awkward run-in with her ex, riffing, "You know that scene at the end of Braveheart where they rip all his entrails out and he's like 'Freedom!' but it's, like, a positive thing, you know, because he like, inspired his people or whatever…? Like that, but without the silver lining."

In addition to being unlucky in love, Rob, as reminded by coworkers, has a tendency to overthink things. She certainly seems to fit right in with the original movie's pessimistic-loner vibes topped with dollops of sarcasm. She doesn't take everything in life seriously, though, as evidenced in her recap of an online review of her store. "'Decently curated cuts, unpretentious location, owner's a little rude. Two-and-a-half stars,'" she says with a glint of pleasure in her voice.

Jake Lacy (I'm Dying Up Here) stars opposite of Kravitz along with Da'Vine Joy Randolph, David H. Holmes and Kingsley Ben-Adir.

Nick Hornby initially penned High Fidelity as a novel in 1995. A feature film directed by Stephen Frears followed in 2000, starring John Cusack, Jack Black and Lisa Bonet (Kravitz's mother).

The series, meanwhile, was penned by Bull's Veronica West and Sarah Kuscerka, who serve as EPs alongside Kravitz, Josh Appelbaum, André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg.

{blackbabes} Beyoncé hits jeweler-thrown karaoke bash in LA with mom Tina Knowles

Beyoncé — along with her mom, Tina Knowles, and guests including Kim Kardashian — attended a karaoke bash thrown by jeweler Lorraine Schwartz and her sister Ofira Sandberg at LA hot spot Blind Dragon this week.

"Beyoncé was dancing on a couch while her mom did a rendition of Chaka Khan's 'I Feel for You,' " said a spy.

We're told other singers included DJ Cassidy — who took the stage to perform Nelly's "Hot in Herre," only to be joined by the rapper himself. Tiffany Haddish grabbed the mike to sing "Proud Mary," and the evening ended with Schwartz and Sandberg belting out Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You" — which we're told had Beyoncé and other party guests dancing and singing along.

{blackbabes} Tessa Thompson To Star In & Produce QCode Sci-Fi-Thriller Podcast ‘The Left Right Game’

Creed and Avengers: Endgame star Tessa Thompson will star in and produce podcast The Left Right Game, the latest fiction pod from Blackout and Carrier outfit QCode.

Cast also includes W. Earl Brown, Aml Ameen, Dayo Okeniyi, Inanna Sarkis, Colleen Camp, Robin Bartlett, John Billingsley, Jojo T Gibbs, Brian Greenberg and Pat Healy.

Thompson plays Alice, an idealistic young journalist who tries to make a name for herself at a new job by following a group of paranormal explorers, obsessed with a seemingly harmless pastime known as the Left/Right Game. The journey takes her into a supernatural otherworld that she and the other members of the expedition cannot handle or survive.

The podcast, which is in post-production, was created by Jack Anderson and is based on his original Internet blog of the same name.

Thompson is producing with Rob Herting and David Henning of QCode, and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Fred Berger of Honey Boy and Seberg outfit Automatik. The group is working with in-demand sound team Will Files (War of the Planet of the Apes) and Matt Yokum (Midway).

The 10-episode series will premiere in a longer format than QCode's past projects, with episodes ranging from 40-45 minutes. They will be available on Apple, Spotify and other podcast platforms in February 2020.

Los Angles-based firm QCode has released four series since March including Blackout starring Rami Malek, Carrier with Cynthia Erivo, Gaslight with Chloë Grace Moretz and The Edge of Sleep with digital influencer Markiplier. Each of the shows has landed in the top 10 on the Apple podcast charts and Apple Podcasts just named Carrier as the Best Fiction Show of 2019.

"With sequels and remakes continuing to be such a big media focus, there is a clear gap in the market for original storytelling. We are excited to be partnering with brilliant filmmakers, actors, and sound teams to create fresh, original stories for your ears," said former CAA agent Herting, president of QCode.

Upcoming for Thompson is the third season of Westworld, Disney reboot Lady and the Tramp and Rebecca Hall's directorial debut Passing. She is repped by Greene & Associates Talent Agency, Mosaic and Jeff Bernstein at Jackoway Austen.

Anderson is repped by Kate Prentice at 42 and Jeff Hynick at Jackoway Austen.

Keke Palmer and Joel Kim Booster are helping a new generation of singles look for love. The Scream Queens and Sunnyside stars have been tapped to host Quibi's reboot of the classic MTV dating show Singled Out, TVLine has learned.

According to MTV Studios and Quibi, the new Singled Out "will hook up a new generation of singles, of all genders and sexual preferences, seeking love in 20 bite-sized episodes. Reflective of today's dating landscape, where everyone is connected, the series will bring online dating to life with a twist — the main dater is linked to the pool of diverse singles through social media."

"I am thrilled to be hosting Singled Out," said Palmer, who also hosts GMA3 on ABC. "To be able to reimagine this show for my generation and on a new platform is so exciting. Can't wait for you guys to see what we have in store!"

The original Singled Out, co-hosted by Chris Hardwick and Jenny McCarthy, aired on MTV from 1995 to 1998. When McCarthy left the show to film her own sitcom in 1997, Carmen Electra was brought on to replace her.

Are you ready to feel the burn? Hulu on Friday not only dropped an incendiary trailer for its hotly-anticipated adaptation of Celeste Ng's bestselling Little Fires Everywhere, it also announced the Kerry Washington/Reese Witherspoon series' premiere date: Wednesday, March 18.

Per Hulu, the drama, which Washington and Witherspoon are also executive-producing, "follows the intertwined fates of the picture-perfect Richardson family" — headed up by Witherspoon and The Affair alum Joshua Jackson — "and an enigmatic mother and daughter" — played by Washington and Lexi Underwood — "who upend their lives.

"The story," the logline goes on to say, "explores the weight of secrets, the nature of art and identity, the ferocious pull of motherhood — and the danger in believing that following the rules can avert disaster."

If the trailer is any indication, it's gonna be a must-see. Just try not to get goosebumps as you watch and hear Scandal's former leading lady ominously intone, "We all have parts that scare us… but we can't not look at who we are."

The series, which boasts Liz Tigelaar (Casual) as showrunner, also stars Rosemarie DeWitt (The Last Tycoon), Jade Pettyjohn (School of Rock) and Jordan Elsass (Keepin' It Weird), and features Jesse Williams (Grey's Anatomy) in a recurring role.
