{blackbabes} Sonequa Martin-Green Joins Brian Tyree Henry In ‘The Outside Story’ Movie

Star Trek: Discovery star Sonequa Martin-Green has signed as part of the ensemble cast of The Outside Story, a Brooklyn based indie comedy-drama led by Brian Tyree Henry. Billions actor Asia Kate Dillon, Sunita Mani (GLOW), Olivia Edward (Better Things), and Michael Cyril Creighton (Spotlight) are also set to co-star in the film, which will mark the directorial debut of writer/director Casimir Nozkowski.

Set up at Sub-Genre Film and Greenmachine Film, the pic follows Charles Young (Henry), an introverted editor living a vertical life in his 2nd-floor apartment, always on deadline and in a rut. When Charles locks himself out of his building, he's forced to go horizontal and confront the world he's been avoiding in search of a way back inside.

Martin-Green, Dillon, Mani, Edward, and Creighton play the assortment of colorful characters whom Charles engages with while compelled to get "outside."

Maria Dizzia, Rebecca Naomi Jones, Matthew Maher, Hannah Bos, and Jordan Carlos round out the supporting cast as production is currently underway on location.

Frank Hall Green, Brian Newman (Sub-Genre Film), Joseph Stephans, and Nozkowski are producing.

Martin-Green, who made history as the first Black female lead in the Star Trek franchise, is also widely known for role as Sasha in AMC's The Walking Dead. She is repped by Gersh, Principal Entertainment LA, and Bloom Hergott.

Dillon, repped by Authentic, Parker/PhoenixPR, and The Carson Kolker Org, also made history as the first non-binary gender identifying actor to be cast in a major television series with Showtime's Billions. Up next, they will appear opposite Keanu Reeves in John Wick 3. In addition to Netflix's GLOW, Mani also stars the CBS All Access series, No Activity. Her reps are Mosaic, Paradigm, and Jackoway, Austen, Tyerman, Wertheimer.

Edward, whose credits include Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, The Mysteries of Laura, and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, is repped by MKSD management and Innovative Artists. Industry Entertainment and Stewart Talent reps Creighton, who appeared in Steven Speilberg's The Post and recurred in shows like Graves and Horace & Pete.

{blackbabes} Monica Raymund's Cape Cod Crime Drama Gets Series Order at Starz

Monica Raymund P-Town

Starz on Monday gave series orders to two dramas, including one fronted by Chicago Fire alum Monica Raymund. The other, written by Katori Hall (Tina: The Musical), promises an unapologetic look at the lives of strip club dancers.

Raymund is set to headline Hightown (fka P-Town), a crime drama set amid the drug trade on Cape Cod. The series is set in motion when a body washes ashore and is discovered by an irreverent National Marine Fisheries Service officer who is determined to help solve the murder — even if the state cops want her nowhere near the case.

Hightown is written Rebecca Cutter (The Mentalist, Gotham), who will executive-produce alongside Gary Lennon, Jerry Bruckheimer, Jonathan Littman and KristieAnne Reed. Production begins in March.

Hall's P-Valley, meanwhile, stars Brandee Evans (The Bobby Brown Story) as Mercedes and Nicco Annan (Shameless) as Uncle Clifford, while new cast additions include Shannon Thornton (Power) and J. Alphonse Nicholson (Chicago P.D., The Blacklist).

Per the series' logline, "Down deep in the Mississippi Delta lies an oasis of grit and glitter in a rough patch of human existence where beauty can be hard to find. This Southern-fried, hour-long drama tells the kaleidoscopic story of a little-strip-club-that-could and the big characters who come through its doors — the hopeful, the lost, the broken, the ballers, the beautiful, and the damned. Trap music meets film noir in this lyrical and atmospheric series that dares to ask what happens when small-town folk dream beyond the boundaries of the Piggly Wiggly and the pawn shop."

{blackbabes} Hulu's Four Weddings and a Funeral Adds Game of Thrones Star in Recast — Plus, Which Original Star Is Back?

Four Weddings and a Funeral Nathalie Emmanuel

Hulu's wedding plans have changed slightly: The streamer's upcoming Four Weddings and a Funeral anthology has tapped Game of Thrones' Nathalie Emmanuel to play the lead role, replacing previously announced star Jessica Williams, according to our sister site Deadline.

Emmanuel will star as Maya, an American who reunites with her friends in London for a wedding, only to have a bombshell revelation at the altar throw their lives into turmoil. Per the official description, "relationships are forged and broken, political scandals exposed, London social life lampooned, love affairs ignited and doused, and of course, there are four weddings… and a funeral."

Plus, Andie MacDowell, who starred opposite Hugh Grant in the original 1994 rom-com, will guest-star on the Hulu series as Mrs. Howard, the mother of Maya's friend Ainsley (played by Mindy Project alum Rebecca Rittenhouse). Also joining the cast: Brandon Mychal Smith (You're the Worst), as Maya's pal Craig. Mindy Kaling will write and executive-produce the series, along with her fellow Mindy Project EP Matt Warburton.

Emmanuel plays Daenerys' trusted advisor Missandei on HBO's fantasy epic Game of Thrones, which is set to wrap up its eight-season run early next year. She also played Ramsey in the last two Fast and the Furious films.

{blackbabes} Venus Williams Reaches Settlement in Fatal Car Crash

Venus Williams has reached a settlement with the family of the man who died in the Florida car accident she had last year ... TMZ Sports has learned.

According to court docs filed in Palm Beach County, Jerome Barson's estate and the tennis star reached an agreement last week. It's unclear how much money changed hands, but according to the docs there was a financial settlement that will cover certain expenses.

Both sides are paying their own attorneys' fees in the wrongful death suit. TMZ Sports obtained surveillance video showing the brutal accident.

Jerome's wife was driving and he was the passenger in the sedan that T-boned Venus as she drove through a busy Palm Beach Gardens intersection in 2017.

Venus was cleared of criminal charges after cops determined she was "caught in the middle" of the intersection when her light turned red.

The Barsons had a green light and barreled into Venus' SUV. Jerome died from his injuries 14 days after the accident. His wife, Linda, was also injured.

{blackbabes} Mariah Carey working on her memoir

One of music's most legendary divas, Mariah Carey, appears to be working on a top-secret project: her memoir.

In a candid interview on Monday night's "Watch What Happens Live," Carey was asked about performing with the late Aretha Franklin in 1998 during the VH1 "Divas Live" show. However, Carey opted not to tell the entire story because she's "working on [her] memoirs," which may include even juicier stories.

"That was the only time we performed together, for that event," Carey, 48, explained. "We saw each other many times, we spoke with each other a lot of times."

"I was very intimidated and I didn't want to perform with her … that's the Queen of Soul!" she added. "Patti LaBelle actually told me, 'You did the right thing. If you would have participated in that situation I woulda had to…' "

Carey went on to do her best Franklin impression and praised the singer, adding, "Aretha was so real."

The "Butterfly" songwriter and singer said she didn't get to rehearse with Franklin as scheduled, but did so in her trailer right before the show.

"I don't want to tell the whole story, because I'm working on my memoirs," Carey said coyly.

It's unclear if the book has been sold to a publisher or if Carey already has a writing deadline.

A request for comment from her team wasn't immediately returned.

{blackbabes} Jada Pinkett Smith reveals growing up with domestic abuse

Jada Pinkett Smith and her mother, Adrienne Banfield-Jones, opened up about their experience with domestic abuse on Monday's episode of "Red Table Talk."

Adrienne recalled a particular moment when her partner and Jada's father, Robsol Pinkett Jr., attacked her.

"What's the worst incident that you experienced with my father," Jada, 47, asked in the revealing episode.

"Oh, there was so many," Adrienne responded. "Like, I have a scar on my back now." Jada remarked the scar came when Robsol threw Adrienne over a banister.

Going into deeper detail Adrienne said, "What happened was he was angry about something. He came home angry. You and I were at mommy and daddy's house, and he came over there and he pissed off about something, I don't even remember what the argument was about, but he started hitting me and he was in a rage. I was backing out of daddy's den into the master bedroom and you were still in the den."

Adrienne recalled pointing out they were leaving Jada behind and Robsol went to get her. That's when Adrienne took off.

"I went through the bedroom out the master bath and down the steps and ran across the street to the neighbor," she said. "Ran across the street to the neighbor for them to call and get me some help."

Adrienne said she knew the relationship was truly over when the police arrived.

The mother-daughter duo acknowledged Robsol had an issue with alcohol and often became violent. "Typically in an altered state when he was abusive," Jada explained.

Robsol died some time ago.

"Now that I'm older, I have so much more compassion in knowing what he had gone through. I was pretty harsh on him," she continued.

{blackbabes} Aisha Tyler To Direct Irwin Winkler-Produced Drama ‘Vigilante’

Aisha Tyler has been set to direct Vigilante, a female-themed thriller scripted by Irwin Winkler and Jose Ruisanchez. Winkler, who has Creed II opening next week, will produce.

Pic is described as a socially charged #MeToo era thriller that follows the journey of a young woman who, after suffering a brutal attack, channels her anger and grief into protecting others. The film shines a light on shining a spotlight on a cross section of survivors whose voices have been dulled by societal complacency and indifference.

Best known for her actress turns on Friends, 24, Criminal Minds and lending her voice the FX's Archer, Tyler received critical acclaim for her feature directorial debut, AXIS, an indie psychological thriller that won awards at numerous festivals. She also directed episodes of Criminal Minds.

"Irwin's body of work is extraordinary, and his taste impeccable," said Tyler. "I am thrilled he has entrusted me with bringing this film to life. It is a muscular and affecting story of a woman who transforms her pain into power, refusing to let a violent act dim her spirit, while also exploring the lasting impact of violence, not just on the victim, but on the perpetrator."

Winkler's credits range from Goodfellas, The Right Stuff, Raging Bull, The Wolf of Wall Street, the Rocky films, and its Creed spinoff films. He also re-teamed with Martin Scorsese for the upcoming crime epic The Irishman, for Netflix. Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci head a killer cast.

{blackbabes} This Is Us' Melanie Liburd on Why Zoe's Bathtub Confession 'Terrified' Her

This Is Us' Kevin went looking for answers in Vietnam, but in Tuesday's episode, he unearthed one he didn't expect: His girlfriend Zoe, played by Melanie Liburd, revealed that she'd been sexually abused by her father when she was a child.

Liburd tells TVLine that when she took the part, neither she nor the series' writers knew that the character would be a survivor of abuse. "I knew she had a trouble childhood, but I didn't realize it would be anything this heavy or dark," she says. "It's been so interesting to play. I think the writers were probably thinking, 'What could we do?'"

Zoe's announcement came as the character sat in a hotel bathtub, recovering from food poisoning and navigating the end of a fight with Justin Hartley's Kevin. Liburd says that she tends to read scripts cover-to-cover ("and quite a few times") upon getting them. And once she'd made her way through Episode 7, her excitement about the scene quickly was followed by another emotion: fear.

This Is Us Zoe Sexual Abuse Melanie Liburd Interview

"Every now and then, a scene comes along where you think, 'Wow, this is amazing,' and then you say, 'Oh my God, I'm actually terrified I have to do this,'" she says, laughing. "It's such important subject matter, and with everything that's happening right now, it's so important to tell it the best way I can."

To that end, Liburd spoke with several people who had suffered abuse and did as much research as possible on the topic. "Zoe is a character that never wanted what happened to her to define who she is, so it was just important to play like she knows that this has happened, has not told many people, but she doesn't want to be seen as a victim," the actress says. "She wants to be seen as this person that just wants to go on with her life and be happy. It was important for me to play it in that way."

Which brings us to the final line of the scene: When a gobsmacked Kevin blurts out that Zoe has always seemed so strong, she matter-of-factly replies, "I am strong."

"We played the scene in more of an emotional way, too, and I like the take that they chose, which was very sure, and she just wanted to get across what she wanted to get across," Liburd says. "It was a lot for her to tell, and to really trust him in that way… I think it was very brave."

And that bravery will bring Kevin and Zoe closer, Liburd previews, as they continue their Vietnamese fact-finding trip. "It's the closeness that they needed, the final step. Zoe knew that she had to open up," she adds. "He's helping her to open up and learn to trust people… they complement each other." She chuckles. "They're having a grown-up relationship. It's very free and loving."

{blackbabes} Tamera Mowry's Niece Among Victims of California Bar Shooting; The Real 'Heartbroken' Over 'Senseless Tragedy'

Tamera Mowry Niece Thousand Oaks

The Real cohost Tamera Mowry-Housely's 18-year-old niece, Alaina Housely, was among the 12 victims of the mass shooting that took place late Wednesday night inside a Thousand Oaks, Calif. country music bar.

"Our hearts are broken," Mowry-Housely and her husband, Adam Housely, said in a statement. "Alaina was an incredible young woman with so much life ahead of her and we are devastated that her life was cut short in this manner. We thank everyone for your prayers and ask for privacy at this time."

The Real, the Warner Bros/Telepictures daytime talker on which Mowry-Housely serves as a cohost, issued a statement on Thursday afternoon (seen below), expressing heartbreak over the "senseless tragedy" and offering condolences to the victims' families.

The shooter, U.S. Marine Corps veteran  Ian David Long, began opening fire at the Borderline Bar & Grill late Wednesday night using a .45-caliber Glock outfitted with an extended chamber to hold more than 10 rounds. Also among the dozen people he killed, before winding up dead himself (possibly by suicide), was Sgt. Ron Helus, a 29-year veteran of the Ventura County Sheriff's department who had confronted the gunman.

{blackbabes} Beyoncé endorses Beto O’Rourke hours before polls close

Hours before polls closed in Texas, Beyoncé took to Instagram and endorsed Democratic Senate candidate Beto O'Rourke, who is trailing Republican Sen. Ted Cruz.

"I'm feeling grateful for everyone before me who fought so hard to give us all the right to have a voice," Beyonce wrote in a post showing the singer wearing a "Beto for Senate" baseball cap and a black sweatshirt.

"We can't voice our frustrations and complain about what's wrong without voting and exercising our power to make it right. We need you. We all need each other, because when we are truly united we are unstoppable," she said.

Beyoncé — who has more than 119 million followers on Instagram — is part of a growing list of celebrities backing O'Rourke. Others include Eva Longoria, LeBron James and Jim Carrey.

In a rare move, Taylor Swift endorsed two Democratic candidates running in Tennessee last month, turning her Instagram into a get-out-and-vote page for her 112 million followers. The 28-year-old pop star, who in the past has remained apolitical, announced she would be voting for Democratic candidates Phil Bredesen and Jim Cooper. Bredesen is running against Republican Rep. Marsha Blackburn, who Swift said was out of step with "MY Tennessee values" on gender equality and gay rights.

In Texas, the race between Cruz and O'Rourke is one that could help determine control of the Senate. O'Rourke — a rising star within the Democratic party — was quick to thank Beyoncé in a tweet.

{blackbabes} Spice Girls to reunite for tour, minus Victoria Beckham: Report

LONDON — A report says the Spice Girls are about to give fans what they really, really want: a reunion.

The Sun newspaper said Saturday that the 1990s girl group is about to announce a new tour, but without original member Victoria "Posh Spice" Beckham.

The newspaper says the band has recorded a message that will be broadcast Monday announcing a 2019 U.K. stadium tour.

Apart from Beckham, now a successful fashion designer, the lineup includes Melanie "Sporty Spice" Chisholm, Emma "Baby Spice" Bunton, Melanie "Scary Spice" Brown and Geri "Ginger Spice" Horner.

The band was a 1990s phenomenon with hits including "Wannabe" and "Viva Forever." They performed as a four-piece for two years after Horner quit the band in 1998, split in 2000 and last reunited at the 2012 London Olympics.

Their comeback is being managed by Simon Fuller and Modest Management, the firm behind the success of One Direction.

It was recently inadvertently revealed in a press release that the foursome would be appearing on the ITV chat show later this month.

"This week on The Jonathan Ross Show, in a TV exclusive, Emma Bunton, Mel B, Mel C and Geri Horner will be chatting together on the sofa. Plus, the hilarious John Bishop, and international pop icon Kylie Minogue, who'll also be performing a duet with Jack Savoretti," the statement read.

The information had been leaked early, as ITV officials had instructed journalists, "The information contained herein is embargoed from all Press, online, social media, non-commercial publication or syndication – in the public domain – until Tuesday 6 November 2018."

Mel B previously claimed the group would be doing a reunion tour, without Victoria, and poked fun at Posh's absence from the tour with a cheeky Halloween costume last week as she dressed as her bandmate and wielded a sign which read "No I am not going on tour."
