{blackbabes} Bad Boys TV Spinoff Lands NBC Pilot Order, Stars Gabrielle Union

Bad Boys TV Spinoff Series Gabrielle Union

NBC has booked a date with Bad Boys' main girl, giving a pilot production commitment to a Gabrielle Union-led TV spinoff of the Will Smith/Martin Lawrence franchise films.

In 2003's Bad Boys II, Union played Special Agent Syd Burnett, the sister of Lawrence's Marcus and love interest of Smith's Mike. Per our sister site Deadline, Syd, who was last seen in Miami taking down a drug cartel, now is an LAPD detective whose world get complicated when a new partner, Nancy McKenna, learns that Syd's pleasures-seeking lifestyle might be masking a big secret.

Union's four-season run as star of BET's Being Mary Jane officially wraps up next year with a two-hour series finale movie.

The Blacklist writers Brandon Margolis and Brandon Sonnier will pen the untitled pilot, while original film producer Jerry Bruckheimer is on board as an executive producer.

{blackbabes} Lupita Nyong’o & Josh Gad To Star In Zombie Comedy ‘Little Monsters’

Lupita Nyong'o and Josh Gad will star in Little Monsters, a zombie comedy from writer-director Abe Forsythe. Forsythe's Down Under star Alexander England also will topline the pic, which is in production in Sydney. The movie is being produced by Keith and Jess Calder's Snoot Entertainment and Bruna Papandrea's Made Up Stories. It has received major production investment from Screen Australia in association with Create NSW.

The film follows Dave (England), a washed-up musician who volunteers to chaperone his nephew's kindergarten class field trip after taking a shine to the plucky teacher, Miss Caroline (Nyong'o). Dave's intentions are complicated by the presence of Teddy McGiggle (Gad) the world's most famous kids show personality — and competition for Miss Caroline's affections. One thing none of them bargained for, however, is a sudden zombie outbreak, from which Dave and Miss Caroline must protect the children.

The Calders are producing alongside Made Up Stories' Papandrea, Jodi Matterson and Steve Hutensky, with Jeanne Snow executive producing. Protagonist Pictures is handling international sales.

Oscar winner Nyong'o is repped by CAA and Del Shawl; Gad is with WME, Lighthouse Management & Media and Ziffren Brittenham. The Australia-born Forsythe is repped by CAA and Plattform, and fellow Aussie England is with UTA and United Management.

{blackbabes} Wozniacki defeats Williams for career best win at WTA finals

SINGAPORE — Caroline Wozniacki won the biggest title of her career when she beat Venus Williams 6-4, 6-4 in the WTA Finals on Sunday.

The Dane completed the victory with a backhand down the line on a second match point for her 60th match victory of the season.

The 27-year-old Wozniacki's best previous result at the WTA Finals was reaching the final in 2010.

Williams, who was hoping to win a 50th career title on Sunday, is the only player at this year's WTA Finals who didn't win a title during the season.

The 37-year-old Williams appeared in three finals at the five most prestigious tournaments of the season: the Australian Open, Wimbledon, and here in Singapore.

Williams, who won the WTA Finals title in 2008, had won all seven previous matches against Wozniacki.

"Eight is my lucky number so I was hoping if I was going to beat her at least once in my career it would be today," Wozniacki said. "I just went out there and did my best."

Wozniacki raced to a 5-0 lead in the second set before Williams mounted a late comeback attempt.

"I didn't seem to come up with my best tennis until it was too late," Williams said. "I'll try to play a little better earlier next time. That might be a good plan."

Woznicki dropped serve when she was serving for the first set at 5-3, and then dropped serve when serving for the match in the seventh and ninth games of the second set.

"I'm still shaking," Wozniacki said. "I was up 5-0 and then Venus started upping her game. She went for her shots, started serving into my body. I'm just so happy I managed to win in the end."

{blackbabes} Williams, Wozniacki win at WTA Finals, Halep stays No. 1

SINGAPORE — Venus Williams rallied at the WTA Finals to beat Caroline Garcia of France 6-7 (3), 6-2, 6-3 Saturday and become the oldest women's finalist at the year-end tournament.

In the other semifinal, Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark beat Karolina Pliskova of Czech Republic 7-6 (9), 6-3 to set up a championship match against the American.

The 37-year-old Williams said "it's hard to produce your best tennis at the end of the year because you've given so much."

Williams holds a 7-0 winning career record over 27-year-old Wozniacki and has only lost one of 15 sets they've played.

Williams, who appeared in the Australian Open and Wimbledon finals this season, won the WTA Finals in 2008, and was also a finalist in 2009. Wozniacki was a year-end finalist in 2010.

Williams started the semifinal flat but kept improving against Garcia.

"One more match and I'm going to be playing against one of the best players in the tournament, another Caroline, and it's going to be like deja vu," Williams told the crowd.

"This tournament is one of the best, the top eight players in the world. Nothing is easy and to be standing in the winner's circle, almost, is so amazing."

Williams became more aggressive and Garcia, making her WTA Finals debut, started to make too many errors. In the end, Williams saved 12 of 13 break points in the match, and took advantage of four of nine break-point opportunities.

The sixth-ranked Wozniacki leads the tour with most match wins on the season at 59-21 so far.

The third-ranked Pliskova's loss is good news for Simona Halep, who will retain the No. 1 ranking through to next year.

Pliskova, playing in the year-end semifinals for the first time, needed to win the WTA Finals title to return to the No. 1 ranking for a second time this year.

Wozniacki improved her career record over Pliskova to 6-3, and is 3-2 in meetings this year.

Both players had six set points in the first set, but it was Wozniacki who capitalized on the sixth offering when Pliskova netted a backhand.

All six of Wozniacki's set points were in the tiebreaker where she initially led 6-1. Pliskova held her first three set points on Wozniacki's serve in the 10th game and three in the tiebreaker.

"All of a sudden it's 6-2, 6-3, 6-4, and I said this isn't fun anymore," Wozniacki said. "I started thinking I should have lost this set already, so actually this is just a bonus. So I had a lot of talks with myself at that point."

From 3-3 in the second set, Wozniacki won 12 of the last 15 points to take her place in the final.

Also Saturday, Martina Hingis played the final match of her career when she and partner Chan Yung-Jan lost their semifinal 6-4, 7-6 (5) to Timea Babos and Andrea Hlavockova.

Hingis and Chan won nine titles this season, including the U.S. Open trophy.

"I think it's been an amazing journey and amazing career that I can be proud of," the 37-year-old Hingis said. "It's not really goodbye. I hope I'll still be part of the game."

{blackbabes} 9-1-1 Promo: See Connie Britton and Angela Bassett as First Responders

Video: https://youtu.be/ryRn6IDh_Q8

When an emergency arises… we can't think of anyone we'd rather have on the case than the cast of 9-1-1.

We got our first look at Ryan Murphy's star-studded new Fox drama in a promo that aired Friday during the World Series — and which you can watch above. The story centers on first responders — police, firefighters, EMTs and 911 dispatchers — who have to keep their cool in high-stress situations, and there's a strong dash of gallows humor here: Peter Krause stars as a firefighter who's called in to help free a woman from a huge python that's wrapped itself around her throat.

Connie Britton's 911 dispatcher explains that there are two types of emergencies: the everyday kind (see: the snake incident), and "the kind that comes without warning," where the line between life and death is razor-thin. In that category, we see Angela Bassett's cop entering a tense situation with gun drawn, and Krause's firefighter trying to talk a suicidal woman off the roof of a building.

9-1-1 debuts in January on Fox.

{blackbabes} Venus Williams rejects retirement talk

Venus Williams has no plans to hang up her racket after a sensational 2017 that could finish with victory at the WTA Finals.

Williams has surged back into the top five this season having slipped to 17 by the end of 2016, the 37-year-old having been in contention in three of the four grand slams.

Across the year Williams has won 37 matches on the WTA Tour and could yet add to that after reaching the last four in Singapore at the expense of Garbine Muguruza.

Given her advancing years some have suggested the beaten Wimbledon and Australian Open finalist could call time on her career, but she insists she has no designs on retiring just yet.

"I don't know [what my plans are]," she told WTA Media.

"I don't think there is a limit or a maximum, I don't want to say we have a plan, I'm not planning on quitting is the best way to put it."

Four-time grand slam champion Kim Clijsters thinks she is right to keep playing, and the Belgian believes Williams is favourite for the end-of-season tournament.

"Venus seems very focused and just really determined," she said. "I think experience might end up being on top at this tournament.

"I've seen her over the last few months doing some commentary and watching her play, just seeing the joy in her eyes and the happiness almost of a child again when she wins big matches and gets to big moments in her career.

"It's fun to see and I really admire that and have a lot of respect for what she's doing. It would be nice in a way to see her do well."

Williams will face Caroline Garcia in Saturday's semi-final, with Karolina Pliskova and Caroline Wozniacki contesting the other last-four clash.

{blackbabes} Venus Williams reaches semifinals at WTA Finals

SINGAPORE — Venus Williams reached the semifinals at the WTA Finals by beating Wimbledon champion Garbine Muguruza 7-5, 6-4 on Thursday.

The 37-year-old Williams advanced from the White Group along with Karolina Pliskova, who lost to French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko 6-3, 6-1. Both Williams and Pliskova finished with 2-1 records.

Williams, who first reached the No. 1 ranking in February 2002, was asked how she has managed to have such a long career.

"I use a lot of sun protection, sunscreen. I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables," Williams said. "That's been the key to my success."

Williams won the WTA Finals in 2008 and reached the final in 2009, which was the last time she appeared in the year-end tournament.

On Thursday, Muguruza made 32 unforced errors to 26 for Williams.

"I'm very proud of this year." said Muguruza, who reached the No. 1 ranking for the first time this season. "I knew here that it's going to be tough, the best eight players are playing."

Pliskova led 3-2 in the first set of the early match, but the already-eliminated Ostapenko won the next seven games for a 6-3, 3-0 lead.

"Really tough to push myself into it and to play the best tennis if you know you're qualified," Pliskova said. "Wasn't being ever in this situation, so I felt weird today."

Pliskova, who earned the No. 1 ranking for the first time in her career after Wimbledon, remains in contention to finish the season at the top. Muguruza, Simona Halep, Elina Svitolina and Caroline Wozniacki also have a chance to become the year-end No. 1.

{blackbabes} ‘Bad Boys’ Spinoff TV Series Starring Gabrielle Union In the Works

The Bad Boys hit movie franchise is getting a spinoff TV series centered on the character played in the second film by Gabrielle Union.

No one would comment but I hear the untitled project, which is currently being pitched to TV networks, already has garnered strong interest from multiple places and is expected to land a major commitment. It hails from the Bad Boys movies' producer Jerry Bruckheimer, Doug Belgrad via his 2.0 Entertainment and Primary Wave Entertainment. Sony Pictures TV Studios, whose movie sibling is behind the feature franchise, is the studio.

The untitled Bad Boys spinoff is being written by The Blacklist writers-producers  Brandon Margolis and Brandon Sonnier. Union's Special Agent Sydney "Syd" Burnett, introduced in the sequel Bad Boys II, is the sister of Detective Lieutenant Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) who was romantically involved with Marcus' partner, Detective Lieutenant Mike Lowrey (Will Smith). She is an undercover operative with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). You can watch a trailer for Bad Boys II below.

Union just became available as BET announced that her popular series Being Mary Jane will end with next year a two-hour series finale movie.

I hear the idea for a Bad Boys offshoot centered around Union's character came from Primary Wave Entertainment, which manages the actress, in the company's first broadcast development season since it brought in former NBC Universal TV Entertainment chairman Jeff Gaspin as President. He executive produces the project alongside Union's manager Jeff Morrone.

Also executive producing the potential series are Belgrad and Jerry Bruckheimer TV's Bruckheimer, Jonathan Littman and KristieAnne Reed.

Belgrad worked on Bad Boys during his 25-year career as a Sony movie executive. He was the creative executive on the first movie, which established Lawrence and Smith as feature stars. As he segued into producing with the launch of 2.0 Entertainment last fall, one of the Sony features he set out to co-finance was the long-gestating Bad Boys 3. His film slate also includes Sony's upcoming Peter Rabbit and the Elizabeth Banks-directed Charlie's Angels reboot.

Because it is based on existing Bruckheimer IP, the project does not fall under Jerry Bruckheimer TV's overall deal at CBS TV Studios. Via that pact, Bruckheimer TV has set up three drama projects at CBS: Main Justice, a legal drama inspired by former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder; Unthinkable, an FBI crime drama penned by MacGyver executive producer David Slack; and Whistleblower from NCIS: New Orleans executive producer/co-showrunner Chris Silber.

{blackbabes} Zendaya, Cate Blanchett preach empowerment at InStyle Awards

Empowerment was the de facto theme at the third annual InStyle Awards Monday night, where Hollywood and fashion A-listers from Cate Blanchett and Zendaya to Cindy Crawford gathered on an open-air patio at The Getty Center to celebrate one another and those behind the scenes that make the glamour possible.

Attendees were dressed to the nines on the hot October night in Los Angeles. But glitz seemed to be the last thing on anyone's mind as they took the stage to speak to the intimate crowd, which included the likes of Heidi Klum, Kate Bosworth, Brie Larson, Ellen Pompeo, Faith Hill, Taika Waititi and Connie Britton among others.

"What we've created with fashion goes beyond just clothes and hair and makeup. We've created a platform to show different types of beauty," style star honoree Zendaya said.

Mothers, she said, have told her that because she wears her hair in an Afro style, that their daughters like their own hair now. "What the world needs right now is people who are exactly who they are," she said.

Blanchett, who was given the Style Icon award, also used her platform to talk about how the true icons of style are women "who have been utterly themselves without apology."

"It's about women who feel free to wear what they want, when they want and how they want to wear. And we know we all like looking sexy, but it doesn't mean we want to (expletive) you," Blanchett said to loud cheers. "I wouldn't say to Steve Bannon, 'You look like a bag of trash. Do you want me to throw you out?' But the comments that get said about what women wear on the red carpet …"

Demi Lovato, recognized for her advocacy work, said that "the more you talk about issues and the things that you've gone through, the more you can help others. That's what's really important: Sharing life experiences with other people on this planet."

Positivity dominated the proceedings of the evening, which saw emotional speeches from makeup artist Hung Vanngo, who talked about his humble beginnings in war-torn Vietnam and a refugee camp, and hair stylist Harry Josh, who advocated for cruelty-free products.

One name that wasn't mentioned on the podium, however, was Harvey Weinstein or the culture of sexual harassment that has dominated talk in the industry for the past three weeks, even among otherwise outspoken advocates like Brie Larson and Lovato.

But there was an undeniable recurring message of defiance and power that permeated every speech.

"I have to say, bring it on ladies," Blanchett said. "Break it wide open."

{blackbabes} ‘Tremors’: P.J. Byrne & Four More Cast In Syfy Reboot Pilot

P.J. Byrne (Big Little Lies) is set for a key series regular role in Syfy pilot Tremors, a reboot of the 1990 cult classic film, with original star Kevin Bacon reprising his role. The project hails from Jason Blum's Blumhouse TV and Universal Cable Prods. Also joining the cast are Hunter Parrish (Weeds), Ebonée Noel (Wrecked), Brandon Jay McLaren (Ransom), and Haley Tju (Bella and the Bulldogs).

In the new Tremors, written by Andrew Miller (The Secret Circle), the killer Graboid worms that nearly destroyed Perfection, NV, 25 years ago are back, and the town's only hope for survival is Valentine McKee (Bacon), who beat them once. But to do it again he'll have to overcome age, alcohol and a delusional hero complex.

Byrne will play Melvin, a survivor of the original Graboid attack and real estate developer obsessed with reinventing Perfection, all fueled by jealousy he holds for Valentine McKee.

Parrish is Arthur Brandt, a young, magnetic leader of the pot-growing, earth-worshipping tribe of Millenials who've moved to Perfection to soak in its unique spiritual energy. Noel will portray Zoe, a truth-seeker possessed with deep, sensual intuition and mystic power, Zoe's connection to Mother Earth is aided by Perfection's unique energy and provides her with visions of events to come. McLaren is Toby, a likable guy who nobody likes; he's the public liaison to a data storage company in Perfection that failed to create any local jobs. He's hanging around to facilitate the company's transition from staffed to unmanned operation. Tju will portray Jai, a dirt-biking drug smuggler and Perfection's resident badass.

Miller, who serves as showrunner, executive produces with Bacon, David Schiff and Jessica Rhoades.

Byrne will next be seen in New Line's Rampage opposite Dwayne Johnson. He's repped by Greene & Associates Talent Agency, Mosaic, and attorney Michael Mahan.

{blackbabes} Williams needs more than 3 hours to beat Ostapenko at Finals

SINGAPORE — Venus Williams needed three match points and more than three hours to defeat Jelena Ostapenko 7-5, 6-7 (3), 7-5 at the WTA Finals on Tuesday.

The match, lasting 3 hours, 13 minutes, featured 20 service breaks, with neither player finding much confidence on their service games.

The 37-year-old Williams dropped her serve nine times, while the 20-year-old French Open champion conceded serve 11 times.

"I don't know if there was any luck for me tonight, I just had to work for every point," the fifth-seeded Williams said. "It's not easy to lose the first match, and both of us were in the same situation. What else can you do but fight to live another day?"

By contrast, Karolina Pliskova capitalized on a fourth match point to easily beat Garbine Muguruza 6-2, 6-2. Pliskova, at 2-0 in the round-robin, is guaranteed a place in the semifinals.

"I'm just happy that I don't have to play the next match (against Ostapenko) for qualifying, because last year it was pretty stressful to do that," Pliskova said. "If I win a few matches in a row it gives me confidence."

The second semifinalist from the White Group will be decided by Thursday's match between Williams and Muguruza, who both are at 1-1 in their group.

Williams and Muguruza met in this year's Wimbledon final with the Spaniard winning the title.

Williams's first match point came on Ostapenko's serve in the 10th game of the second set, but she squandered the opportunity by netting a forehand.

Ostapenko kept the pressure on to force a tiebreaker and levelled the match. Prior to this match, Williams had only lost two tiebreakers in 12 played this season.

But Williams, the runner-up at the Australian Open and Wimbledon this year, then started taking Ostapenko's second serve from well within the baseline. She broke her Latvian opponent in the 11th game by forcing her into a backhand error.

Williams, the only player in the field to have won the WTA Finals — back in 2008 — sealed victory with a backhand crosscourt winner.

Seventh-seeded Ostapenko — who is making her WTA Finals debut — fell to 0-2 in round-robin play.

23-time Grand Slam singles title winner, who gave birth to her first child in September and, hence, was on hiatus for much of 2017 while pregnant, has owned the gated spread since early 2006 when she bought it for $6.612 million. The 36-year-old 23-time Grand Slam singles title winner, who gave birth to her first child in September and, hence, was on hiatus for much of 2017 while pregnant, has owned the gated spread since early 2006 when she bought it for $6.612 million. Built in 1935 but since updated in a fashion that retained only some of its original architectural characteristics, the baby blue mansion is hidden behind a tall, meticulously clipped hedge on 2.7 gated acres with six bedrooms and seven bathrooms in 6,101-square-feet.

A long, vine draped colonnade connects the gated motor court and prominently sited three-car garage to the double front doors that open into an unexpectedly narrow entrance hall with gleaming white marble flooring that continues throughout much of the main floor including the vast, semi-circular living room that's lined with transom-topped French doors that open to verdant gardens. A separate formal dining room opens to the gardens through French doors set into a bay window and the kitchen offers slab marble countertops on cherry-toned wood cabinets, an expensive array of up-to-date commercial-style stainless steel appliances and an adjoining breakfast room lined on three sides with windows and French doors.

One of the main floor bedrooms appears to have been converted to a fitness room while the second floor master suite, painted a girlish shade of blush pink, has French doors to a Juliet balcony and a marble-floored and brass-fixtured bathroom with a double-sink vanity, a steam shower and claw-footed tub set into a window-lined bay under a gold-beaded chandelier.

Somewhat surprisingly, the tree-shaded grounds do not have a tennis court — apparently Ms. Williams prefers not to bring her work home — but do offer expansive lawns bordered by clipped boxwood hedges, private hiking trails carved into the steep hillside behind the house, a dark bottom swimming pool surrounded by a flagstone terrace and an open-air cabana with outdoor fireplace.

Williams, who has earned close to $100 million in prize money over her 15+ year professional career not to mention many tens of millions more in lucrative endorsement deals, has long maintained an apartment in Paris — she speaks near fluent French — and her stateside holdings include a 5,842-square-foot residence in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., she picked up in May 2015 for $2.5 million and a 2.4-acre vacant estate parcel in the prestigious Bears Club enclave in Jupiter, Fla., she snagged in early 2014 for $4.125 million.

In 2015, Williams and her older sister Venus Williams, a tennis legend in her own right with seven Grand Slam titles of her own, sold an 1,800-square-foot loft condo they co-owned in Midtown Manhattan, N.Y., for $2.1 million to DeflateGate investigator Ted Wells and property records indicate an almost 8,500-square-foot mansion on a golf course in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., the sisters purchased together in the late 1990s for $525,000 is now owed in its entirety by Venus.

So the sports stories go, the entrepreneurial tennis great, who sells a line of eponymous athleisure wear on HSN, plans to relocate at least part-time to San Francisco with her Reddit co-founder fiancée Alexis Ohanian — rumor has it they're planning a New Orleans wedding — who just last month sold a four-bedroom and 2.5-bathroom condo in a two-unit vintage Victorian near San Francisco's Alamo Square for $2.215 million.

{blackbabes} Scoop: UnREAL Adds 7 Actors for Season 4's 'All-Star' Edition

UnREAL SEason 4 Cast All-Star Francois Arnaud

You know how reality shows love bringing back the best most notorious past contestants for all-star seasons? UnREAL's Everlasting will do the same in its far-off fourth season.

Though the Lifetime drama hasn't yet returned for Season 3, several actors have been added to the cast for Season 4, TVLine has learned. The six new faces include Midnight, Texas lead François Arnaud and Pitch's Meagan Holder.

(Before you freak, Midnight, Texas fans: UnREAL's shortened Season 4 episode order would allow Arnaud to participate in a potential Texas Season 4, should NBC order one.)

Read on for the rundown of the new characters, as well as who's playing them and the official character descriptions:

TOMMY | (Arnaud), "a charming and ambitious game producer who has been plucked out of basic cable and given a shot at the big leagues."

NOELLE | (Holder), "an image-conscious commercial real estate agent who has put a lot of effort into securing her spot as a reality-TV darling. Dumped in her season's finale, this quintessential 'prom queen' refuses to let history repeat itself."

CANDI | (Natalie Hall, True Blood), "a brash, funny single mom who also happens to be a Miami stripper.  While she's never seen an episode of Everlasting, she's tasked with playing the role of Everlasting superfan."

RODRIGO | (newcomer Alejandro Muñoz), "a cocky, international soccer star and former suitor, he'll have all the girls vying for his affection." (Psst: This was the part referenced in the most recent Ask Ausiello.)

SKYE | (Alli Chung, Dark Matter), "a party girl who has left all her inhibitions at the door, she's just here for a good time."

SOFIA | (Meghan Heffern, Designated Survivor), "formerly a sweet kindergarten teacher, she returns to Everlasting determined to change her persona into the 'bad girl' that audiences love to hate."

JACK | (Christopher Russell, Star Trek: Discovery), "a former  Everlasting runner-up, and then Suitor, who is prone to picking the wrong girl. This handsome pediatrician is ready to settle down and is hoping third time on the show is a charm."

{blackbabes} Pliskova beats Williams for first win at WTA Finals

SINGAPORE — Third-seeded Karolina Pliskova cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 win over fifth-seeded Venus Williams at the WTA Finals on Sunday.

"I felt really good," Pliskova said. "I think everything was fine with my game today. I think I was just a little bit better, even from the baseline, even on my service games, so there was no need to panic with anything in my game."

The Czech player raced to a 3-0 lead in the first set, but Williams regained her composure to break back in the fifth game.

Pliskova broke the Williams serve again in the sixth and eighth games to secure the first set. Williams double faulted to 30-40 and then sailed a backhand long on the final two points of the set.

In the second, Pliskova saved two break points in the third game, and then broke the Williams serve in the fourth game to take a 3-1 lead. She broke Williams again in the final game of the match.

"I definitely was playing better in the second set but she just seemed to have all the answers," Williams said. "Some days that's how it is. Hopefully, I will have more luck in the next ones."

Pliskova, making her second consecutive appearance in the WTA Finals, is now 1-0 in round-robin action in the White Group.

Williams, the only player of the eight in the WTA Finals not to win a title this year, falls to 0-1 in the group.

{blackbabes} Venus Williams returns to WTA Finals for 1st time since 2009

SINGAPORE — Venus Williams returns to the year-end WTA Finals for the first time since 2009 and will face Karolina Pliskova on Sunday.

The top eight players in the world will play in the round-robin event, which features No. 1 Simona Halep, Garbine Muguruza, Pliskova, Elina Svitolina, Caroline Wozniacki, Jelena Ostapenko and Caroline Garcia.

"They're all pretty special," said Williams of her five career appearances in the year-end competition. "Only top eight get here. It's definitely something well-earned."

The 37-year-old Williams is the third-oldest player to qualify for the year-end championships. Billie Jean King was 39 in 1983 and Martina Navratilova was 38 in 1994.

The fifth-ranked Williams reached two Grand Slam finals this season. She lost to her sister Serena at the Australian Open and to Muguruza in the final at Wimbledon.

Williams won the 2008 WTA Finals title by defeating Vera Zvonareva of Russia. Since her first full season on the WTA Tour in 1995, Williams says she's seen improvement in the sport.

"The competition is so much greater," said the seven-time Grand Slam winner in singles. "It's a beautiful change, in fact."

Every player but Garcia has a possibility of playing reaching the year-end No. 1 ranking, depending on their result this week.

Williams is in the White Group. She joins big-hitters Muguruza and Pliskova, who were both ranked No. 1 during this season, and French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko.

Williams and Pliskova are 1-1 in career meetings. Williams is 3-2 against Muguruza and 1-0 versus Ostapenko.

"I think my group is more aggressive-style players," Pliskova said. "The other one is more defending. I start with Venus tomorrow. I beat her once from match point and once I lost a very close match. This one is open."

{blackbabes} Jill Scott says Harvey Weinstein lashed out at her about pregnancy

Jill Scott shared her own experience with Harvey Weinstein.

"When I met Harvey Weinstein, he was RUDE. In the NASTIEST tone he said 'Who told you to get pregnant?!' And rolled his eyes in disgust," the singer-songwriter, 45, wrote on Twitter Friday.

Scott continued, "I stayed away from him after. Who acts that way towards a pregnant woman?? Power to all the women bullied by assholes. Power in general."

Scott also tweeted, "What's true is there are stories I will never tell publicly. I have my reasons and peace in those areas."

Weinstein is currently in sex rehab and has been accused of sexually assaulting and sexually harassing several women in Hollywood.

{blackbabes} Venus secures Muguruza rematch at WTA Finals

SINGAPORE (Reuters) - Venus Williams will get an opportunity to avenge her Wimbledon final defeat by Garbine Muguruza at the eight-player WTA Finals after the veteran American was placed in the same round-robin group as the Spaniard at Friday's draw.

World number two Muguruza swatted aside the 37-year-old 7-5 6-0 in July to claim her second grand slam title and next week's showdown will be the highlight of the White Group, which also includes Czech Karolina Pliskova and French Open holder Jelena Ostapenko.

The power-packed pool, full of aggressive players armed with big serves, will open proceedings on Sunday when Pliskova faces 2008 WTA Finals champion Williams, before Muguruza takes on Latvia's Ostapenko at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

"Maybe I need to channel some of those memories (from 2008) to play well here... we have an amazing field, the tournament is the best it has ever been run and the excitement level is high," Williams said at the glitzy pre-tournament gala ceremony.

World number one Simona Halep was drawn in the Red Group alongside Ukraine's Elina Svitolina, Denmark's Caroline Wozniacki and in-form Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia, with play in that pool starting on Monday.

Halep will also have revenge in mind when she faces Garcia for the second time in three weeks after the Frenchwoman beat her in the China Open final in Beijing, a day after the Romanian became the 25th woman to climb to the top of the WTA rankings.

The elite event offers a healthy haul of points throughout the eight days of action and remarkably, seven players in the field, all excluding Garcia, have a chance to claim the prestigious season-ending number one ranking.

The round-robin format will see the top two players from each pool advance to the semi-finals.

8-Caroline Garcia (France)

{blackbabes} Venus Williams Ready to Talk to Lawyers in Fatal Car Crash Case

Venus Williams is finally making herself available to talk to opposing lawyers about the fatal car crash ... and the wrongful death lawsuit.

According to a court doc obtained by TMZ Sports ... Venus will sit for a deposition on November 9 in West Palm Beach. As we first reported ... attorneys for the estate of Jerome Barson said the tennis superstar had refused to respond to their repeated requests since July.

Barson's attorney, Michael Steinger, tells us, "After months of avoiding our repeated requests for deposition and after requesting the court order the same, we are pleased that Ms. Williams realized the importance of her testimony in this very serious case."

Barson is the 78-year-old man who died from his injuries after the June collision. Venus blames a third unidentified driver for the accident.
