Chrisette Michele, "Let Freedom Reign" (Def Jam Recordings)

Chrisette Michele has never been a run-of-the-mill R&B singer, and the Grammy Award-winner pulls even further away from the pack with the gutsy "Let Freedom Reign."

Now on her third disc, Michele bends her vintage vocals to take on love, loss and headier topics — and she raps too.

"Oh American citizen/ come collect your freedom/ no matter what you're living in/ no more giving in," sings Michele on the title track. She also drops this rap verse: "Keep us in the four walls of our church we'll be quiet/ Most of us ain't even Democratic or Republican/ and by coincidence/ we love the elected/ until they're detected of being human."

The track also features Talib Kweli and Black Thought and fits right in with edgy anthem "I'm a Star" and the self-empowerment track "Number One."

But Michele also reveals vulnerability, singing over machine sounds, chimes and harps on "So In Love" featuring Rick Ross.

She recaptures the classic, piano-driven sound that drew fans to her 2007 debut with the grand "I Don't Know Why, But I Do," written by John Legend and Jazmine Sullivan, and brings her elegance to "I Know Nothing," and to a smattering of sweet interludes that range from thoughtful to funny.

"Let Freedom Reign" shows an incredible balance in both its content and in the way it contrasts Michele's demure vocals with a bold sound.

Forget pickles and ice cream — Mariah Carey is sticking to healthy snacks when it comes to pregnancy cravings.

"My taste bud situation is unparalleled," the expectant singer, 41, tells Extra. "I don't know what it is, but I'm just about fruit for some reason."

That said, she won't accept just anything that falls off the tree. "It has to be really good for me to like it," she says.

Other side effects of pregnancy include expanding in more places than just her belly.

"My fingers obviously swelled a little bit," she says. "I can't even get this ring off if I tried."

The impending birth will even affect their holiday plans. Carey said she and her husband Nick Cannon usually go to Aspen, but will skip it in 2010.

"I can't go there this year because of the altitude," she explained. "We're figuring it out. Looking at different options."

While Carey is open about her new favorite food, she's not prepared to share certain other details — including confirming raging rumors she's expecting twins.

"I'm not telling anyone," she insists.

Former Destiny's Child singer Kelly Rowland is in trouble with U.S. tax officials after allegedly failing to hand over more than $98,000.

The Bills, Bills, Bills star was hit with a tax lien by bosses at America's Internal Revenue Service on Nov. 8.

The papers, filed with the New York City Register and obtained by The Detroit News, suggest Rowland owes payments totalling $98,634.

Nicole Richie is stepping up her fight against a paparazzo she has accused of harassing her daughter Harlow - the socialite is heading back to court to seek a permanent restraining order.

Richie was granted a temporary injunction in November ordering Fabricio Luis Mariotto to stay 100 yards away from her, her fiance Joel Madden and their two children Harlow and Sparrow, and to keep his distance from Harlow's Los Angeles school.

The court ruling is only valid for three weeks, and now it's emerged Richie will be heading back to court in December in a bid to have the order made permanent.

A source tells GossipCop.com that Richie will attend the court hearing and plans to testify against Mariotto.

Jazmine Sullivan, "Love Me Back" (J Records)

Jazmine Sullivan's sophomore disc, "Love Me Back," is something amazing.

Sure, her first album was good, but what the 23-year-old powerhouse does on the second reveals a layer that 2008 debut "Fearless" had only hinted at.

Her first two singles, the Missy Elliot-produced "Holding You Down (Goin' in Circles)" and Salaam Remi-produced "10 Seconds" pay homage to around-the-way-girl predecessor Mary J. Blige by taking bits of her early songs. But while Sullivan has done a great job of playing Philly's version of the faithful (and sometimes vengeful) ride-or-die chick, she is not boxed in by the role.

"He was a boss that I knew in Harlem/ gave me my first taste but I had to go farther/I mean I had to go harder/ I started calling up his crib just to get him/ And I didn't even care/ I'd ask his wife if she was with him," Sullivan sings over meandering piano on the solemn "Redemption."

The story unfolds to reveal two things. First, Sullivan is singing not from the perspective of a mistress, but a drug fiend. And second, she's a daring co-writer, belting her second verse from the viewpoint of an emotionally and physically abusive man.

Every lilt of Sullivan's voice is a shot to the heart on the lovesick "Stuttering." The emotive "Excuse Me" is another sweetly addictive ballad. Things are fun on the uptempo Prince-influenced "Good Enough" and "Don't Make Me Wait." And title track, "Love Me Back," just might have everyone wondering, "How could we not?"

CHECK OUT THIS TRACK: "Love You Long Time" opens with a bluegrass harmony, bulks up with some marching band drumming, and only Sullivan could make it all work.

Faith Evans managed to avoid a DUI rap.

The Grammy-winning songbird pleaded no contest today to a charge of reckless driving stemming from an August DUI bust in Los Angeles.

By copping to the lesser charge, prosecutors agreed to drop  in the case to a lesser charge of instead of two drunken driving counts.

So what kind of wrist-slap did she get?

The judge placed Evans on three years' probation, ordered to her to undergo a three-month alcohol program and pay a $300 fine plus penalties, according to Frank Mateljan of the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office.

She must also avoid driving with any measurable amount of alcohol in her system.

The 37-year-old widow of the Notorious B.I.G. had her car impounded and spent four quality hours in custody on Aug. 21after she got stopped at checkpoint near Marina Del Rey.

Rihanna isn't looking to be a single mom.

Not that she doesn't think she could raise a child on her own, but…

"I definitely think a child deserves both parents," the songstress says in the new issue of Interview magazine. "It would be selfish of me, because of my pride and independence to say, 'Oh, I just want a sperm donor, because I can do it myself.' I can do it myself, but that's not fair."

Ideally, she'd like to get married, but it's not a definite. "I'm just saying that whatever comes my way I'll be able to handle it," says, Rihanna, 22, who is dating Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp. "But in a perfect book, there would be marriage and kids."

She's certainly not looking to rush things. "I have a lot of other stuff to accomplish before I get to kids," says the singer, who released her fifth studio album Loud earlier this month. "So...whenever the time is right, I'll just know. I don't really plan on the age. It could be a year from now. It could be 10 years from now. Whenever is right."

As for what she thinks her kids will be like, Rihanna said, "I know God will probably want me to have a daughter just so I could see what I put my mother through. But on the other hand, I really love little boys. So it would just be fly either way."

Private life aside, Rihanna insists she has no plans to ditch music if her acting career takes off. She costars in the upcoming action flick Battleship with Alexander Skarsgård, Liam Neeson and Taylor Kitsch. "I didn't know if I was going to like it or hate it or love it," she says of the movie work. "But I actually enjoy it and it's something that I'm looking forward to in the future. But I'll never shut off music and just do film. I love music too much."
