Look out, Broadway: "Smash" is headed to the Great White Way.
NBC has released an extended trailer for Season 2 of the musical-centric series. If it looks like a brand-new show, that's because it pretty much is.
Much like the Broadway's "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark," "Smash" has been heavily revamped from its original incarnation, and now has a new showrunner (Josh Safran from "Gossip Girl") and a ton of new cast members -- notably Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson, who has a starring role in the new trailer, if not the show.
Also joining the extended ensemble cast are Liza Minnelli, Jesse L. Martin ("Rent"), Sean Hayes (reuniting with his former "Will & Grace" costar Debra Messing), Daphne Rubin-Vega, Bernadette Peters, Nikki Blonsky ("Hairspray"), Krysta Rodriguez, Andy Mientus and Jeremy Jordan ("Newsies").
The fresh faces will undoubtedly breathe new life into a show that was weighted down by a bunch of duds, all since cut from the show: Julia's husband (Brian d'Arcy James), the other guy she was sleeping with (Will Chase) scheming Ellis (Jaime Cepero) and Karen's ex-fiancé (Raza Jaffrey).
Do you think the new trailer looks promising?
Smash returns with a special two-hour Season 2, Tuesday, Feb. 5, at 9 p.m.
